Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I did my searches and am still unclear. Can I access the shock top by removing the panel behind the rear seats or do I need to put the top in service position, disconnect the cables, fold the rear window forward and attack from above? I know some of you guys have done this DIY so would really appreciate some tips to save me some time and aggravation.

POST 2Original post

Just did mine over a month ago. Top side: First, you have to put the top in service position. Disconnect 2 metal wires holding the bottom of the rear top. Take the carpet cover (4 plastic push pins). Once you get those out, you can access the upper strut bolts. Bottom side: I recommend disconnecting sway bar link on the sway bar side. I had to remove one of the rear dog bone arm and toe link arm to get the strut out.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Exactly the info I was hoping for - thanks! Really appreciate the help with this. I just completed the front and it was not too tough and was hoping the rear would be a breeze but I guess not so much on a cab.

The rears are so much easier than the front. It took me 1/2 the time to do the rear than front. The hardest part is to align the lower mounting bolt with the strut when you put it back together. I used rubber mallet and tire iron. The cab has better access to the rear upper mount once you get the rear carpet out. 2 out of 3 nuts are under the foam insulator. Just pull the insulator and you have full access to remove the nuts.
