Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

My cluster stays illuminated even with the key off and the only gauges that work are the temp and volt gauges and the digital display flashes airbag, oil pressure, fuel warnings! Any help out there!

What is the history of the car? This just show up out of the blue or has something happened to the car or was something done to the car recently? New stereo maybe?

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I bought the car with issues! The top, rear spoiler, Windows, and dash didn't work so I tried replacing the ignition switch so when I was under the dash I noticed the green plug on the cluster was not plugged I so after I plugged it in everything worked except the. Dash I'm quessing they unplugged it to keep it from draining the battery.

Ok then. Well, all I've got is general help. Reads like the dash, more accurately perhaps the cluster, is powered when it shouldn't be. Years ago a buddy a professional auto tech specialized in electrical/dash/cluster and other interior and exterior electrical problems. I suspect in this case he'd approach this by removing the cluster, and possibly the dash to try to spot any wiring or wiring connector problems. Maybe you don't want to take that big of a step? I don't have a fuse chart handy but you could possibly identify any fuses that could possibly be related to the cluster/dash and pull each one in turn to try to narrow down which circuit is the one that is powering the portion of the cluster that is illuminated. Be prepared to find that only one fuse is involved -- the one for the cluster. It would be interesting I think to know if the fuse blows or not. If it blows this suggests a pinched wire or something similar that is powering up the electrics even though the ignition switch is off. (And you are sure the ignition switch is good.) In this case then removing the gage cluster to inspect it and its wiring connections could be called for. You are looking for any signs of physical damage, like perhaps a scrape or gouge from a screwdriver or a jimmy tool if the car was perhaps attacked by someone trying to steal the stereo. Look for signs of moisture. A Cab can suffer from water damage. A leaking top, or windshield seal which can let water into the cabin at the dash area, or the owner left the top down and the car got caught in the rain. The problem can arise if the car was infested with mice, too. I came upon a Turbo Cab in for this. In this case the damage was towards the rear of the car, in the engine compartment, but in this case the rodents were rats, not mice, and the more roomy engine compartment I think attracted the rats there. If the fuse doesn't blow if you can beg or borrow a cluster to see if it behaves the same way could help you confirm/eliminate the cluster as the source of the problem. If the cluster is found to be the source of the problem sometimes these can be repaired/"rebuilt" and resurrected. This job can get pretty involved. I've come across a few Porsches in for electrical problems and the tech often has to "gut" the car down to the bare metal to get the wiring harness fully exposed so it can be removed and replaced. Seldom -- make that never -- is the harness "repaired".
