Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

hello gearheads ... i'll be bidding on the above mentioned vehicle in the morning.. the condition report says altered suspension, which usually means "OH BOY... SOMEONE JACKED IT ALL UP" .. my question is, what should i look for if the suspension was actually upgraded.. was the factory suspension lacking? I should note that altered could also mean the vehicle was lowered or raised (trucks) ..again, it's an 03 4S coupe manual .. 98k mi ... being sold with a sale day mechanical guarantee.. i bought an endoscope with which to look for a leaky ims or main seal too.. thanks for any advice

POST 2Original post

Link to vehicle? What are you buying it for? Daily driver, weekends, track, flip...?

POST 3Original post

The term is usually "upgraded" suspension, which is normally coilovers or lowering springs with stock dampers. But "altered" suspension - who knows? I think the C4S came with an upgraded suspension from the factory.

POST 4Original post

The C4S did come with an upgraded factory suspension, but many people still modify it to lower the car as mentioned above. It could be a great thing or it could be a bad thing, depending on how it was lowered and what you like as a buyer. When I used my 996 C4S as a daily driver, I kept the suspension in stock form. I regularly scraped the front spoiler entering driveways or driving over dips. A car with a lower suspension would be difficult to drive every day for me, and that's something that should be considered. For people who live in flatter areas, it doesn't seem to be as much of an issue.

I checked my crystal ball, and I see this turning into another "finally got rid of..." thread.

and bring a truck scale to check the oil - car should weight 3241lbs full of oil and if it's in the 3238lbs range about a quart low.
