Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

It's possible for me to take off one of the front fender liners, remove the upper vent hose, and start filling with a small pump into the rads, then put the hose back on and fill from the back.
Leading evidence: 'Fill from the back' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Fill from the back' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I was supposed to get that cool vacu-fill jobber but time got away with me, and I want to drive on Sat to an event.

Fill the reservoir and drive around the block with the release valve open (don't remember the proper terminology).

Temp gauge is running well below the 180F mark on the gauge where before it was running around 190-ish.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I've just installed a new 73C thermo in the car, and would like some advice on refilling so that the engine doesn't overheat during the warm-up.
I was supposed to get that cool vacu-fill jobber but time got away with me, and I want to drive on Sat to an event.
It's possible for me to take off one of the front fender liners, remove the upper vent hose, and start filling with a small pump into the rads, then put the hose back on and fill from the back.
Is this extra time and effort worth it? Or should I just fill and purge, fill and purge from the tank in the engine bay?
Don't worry about it. Fill the reservoir and drive around the block with the release valve open (don't remember the proper terminology). Check and top off as necessary. Rinse. Repeat.
It's just behind the coolant tank. It's black and has a silver wire that you lift up to open. Leave it open while you drive around.
The green circle. (ignore the red arrows)
Success! Found the burp valve and opened it, poured in the coolant, fired it up and waited, and waited, and waited. Eventually the thermo opened and it gurgled for a while then added more coolant and distilled and drove it around some.
Temp gauge is running well below the 180F mark on the gauge where before it was running around 190-ish. Much better.
Good to hear Doc.
I put a LN low temperature thermostat in a few months back....when I was in FL, it still got to the "0" on the 180 when around town....on the highway it was closer to hash mark.....I was going to search the forum to see if this is normal with the LN thermostat installed. I figured it was, it just opens sooner?
I had the same. When sitting in the driveway, it would stay right around 180 as the cooling air flow is managed by the temp detectors in front of the radiators. They won't cycle until the temp reaches their setpoint, which is likely around 190-ish. So, unless those temp sensors are swapped out, when stopped the air is managed by them and it'll still hang around 185-190.
I might investigate a lower setpoint sensor, but not sure where to start.
You can leave the valve open awhile longer. Don't be surprised if you need to top off the coolant again.
I carried a jug of 50-50 coolant/distilled water with me for a couple of days just in case it went low again.
