I always wondered why coolant ran through the AOS but I was too lazy to look into it further (seemed a little risky to me to have air, oil and coolant all running through the same hunk of plastic-and it doesn't help any to have that stupid plastic coolant junction right near the idler pulley where it is so easy to break either).

Thats funny because I actually broke both ends of that little plastic piece behind the pully, from what I understand that part isnt really needed for anything other than just being a bracket to position the hose and stop it from being hit with the belt so I made my own OEM version using this little brass piece I found at home depot thats used for some sort of fuel lines for a lawnmower or something along those lines...the inside diameter is the same as the plastic OEM diameter too

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

12 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So i order the aos for my 99 carrera but when i go to install it there are 2 extra hoses that Im not sure where Im suppose to connect to?? Any one know if i can just route hose 1 to hose 2 directly as the new aos doesnt have the plugs???

POST 2Original post

Is your new AOS a non-Porsche aftermarket part?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 13162988

Part number is 996.107.02...it should be oem..ive seen other threads with the same year as mine that installed the same aos but they didnt have these extra hoses

POST 4Original post

The correct AOS for your car is 99610702355. Looks like you got a wrong one.

POST 5Original post

Ah I see, what exactly do those two hoses do that Im missing connections to?

POST 7Original post

Coolant gong through the AOS to prevent icing insde the AOS in extreme cold start condition.

POST 8Original post

I was fooled as well, you have to pay very close attention to the connections when purchasing. That is an AOS for 01-04 and boxsters I believe.

My main focus was the bottom bracket and it looked like the right one as I thought there were only two different designs...luckily the dealership near me had the one I needed in stock so everything is ok now

POST 10Original post

I just wanted to say that this is the kind of information that makes this forum so great. So I have two questions: 1. If the newer one does not circulate coolant how does it handle extreme cold issues (position on engine or something else)? 2. Would it cause problems to not use the coolant section of the AOS (i.e. bypass the coolant section-I carry a spare junction in my tool roll) if the most extreme cold your car typically experiences is heavy-sweater-weather?

POST 11Original post

I've only read Posche literature that describes why the coolant is used for the AOS and I've never seen any material explaining why it's not needed in boxsrer/cayman. I think AOS position is a good guess. If the ambient temperture is never close to freezing, I don't see any issues bypassing the coolant hoses to the AOS.

Unfortunately living in Chicago does bring in pretty harsh weather so bypassing wouldn't haven been too great of an idea...at least now We know what that actually does for the car Thats funny because I actually broke both ends of that little plastic piece behind the pully, from what I understand that part isnt really needed for anything other than just being a bracket to position the hose and stop it from being hit with the belt so I made my own OEM version using this little brass piece I found at home depot thats used for some sort of fuel lines for a lawnmower or something along those lines...the inside diameter is the same as the plastic OEM diameter too
