But, I installed the new brake sensors and the warning light came on.
Leading evidence: 'Install brake sensors and the warning light came' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Install brake sensors and the warning light came' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. Essentially I installed the new pads and then put in the sensors in there respective places.

When I put the key in the brake wear indication comes up so since the sensors are new I figured it was user error and I installed the sensors incorrectly.

I will take the wheels off this weekend and see if I can reconnect the sensors and hopefully that will make the light go away.

Been a while but my memory is replacing the brake sensors is pretty straightforward.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I decided to take a risk and install brakes on my 2003 C2. I was shocked, but everything actually went great thanks to the Rennlist forums and YouTube. Thankfully the brakes work fine.
But, I installed the new brake sensors and the warning light came on. Everything with the sensors seemed to go in correctly but maybe there is a secret on this? Essentially I installed the new pads and then put in the sensors in there respective places. So a few questions:
1. Any helpful hints on the brake sensors?
2a. Do I have to use brake sensors?
2b. If I don't use brake sensors will the light go off?
Thanks so much for any help.
Been a while but my memory is replacing the brake sensors is pretty straightforward. The only real tricky part was the routing of the wiring.
Did you use new sensors? Did you get the right sensors? I don't think there is a difference between the sensors used in the front pads and the sensors used in the rear pads but make sure.
Are you sure the electrical connection is good? Sometimes electrical harness connectors, especially ones exposed to the elements, can become hard to reconnect. Often times there's a bit of a resistance towards the end and one stops when in fact it takes a bit extra effort to make the connection.
Are you sure the wear light is on? I can't recall if there is one for the brake fluid level. But you need to be sure what light is lit and what it can mean. Might not be related to the wear sensors at all.
You don't have to use brake wear sensors. My first brake job I didn't. I just left the old ones connected -- to avoid open/exposed connectors and these getting mucked up and unuseable should I decide to start using the sensors again (which I did and have ever since) -- and put a plastic bag around the sensor tip and then zip tied the wiring up and out of the way.
But I got tired afterwards from everytime I had the car in getting asked why are the sensors tied up?
Thanks Macster!
I did purchase new wear sensors. When I put the key in the brake wear indication comes up so since the sensors are new I figured it was user error and I installed the sensors incorrectly. I will take the wheels off this weekend and see if I can reconnect the sensors and hopefully that will make the light go away. Thanks for the quick reply and information.
Just recently replaced my rears, I'd say make sure they are plugged in all the way and also make sure you didn't damage them when hammering the pin back in place. I actually knocked off one of the little clips that held the wire in route while hammering carelessly. Just ziptied it back in place but I could definitely see it accidentally damaging one if he sensors.
The should just slip into place with a "click" as the spring clip expands to hold the sensor in place......
"Hammering" is not a the correct procedure.
Thanks to all of you who replied. I was able to successfully find the issue and now the brake sensors work and the warning light is off.
Essentially I didn't push the unit into place correctly. Always user error for me.
I really appreciate your help on this.
Great job! Thx for the update!
I've lost count of the number of silly mistakes I've made and had to troubleshoot. But the one thing I have learned is that when you are putting it back together and it seems like something isn't right, then something definitely isn't right. That ones bit me a few times.
