POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello everyone! New member from Las Vegas, NV. I just picked up my "new to me" 2002 911 C2 Cabrio. 77k miles, 6 speed. IMS bearing completed, 18" OZ Wheels. The hard top will only be on it this once since I drove it from Palm Desert to Las Vegas today. I am looking forward to making it mine and getting to know her very well. Nothing too crazy in the works, but it will be my style for sure. I have spent plenty of time on other forums for many other vehicles I have owned, but I am going to be in a his one for the long haul! Best of all, my wife likes it too!

POST 3Original post

Congrats and fine looking 911 you have there. Eddie

POST 7Original post

Well, well, well, looks like we just found our coordinator for the Summer 2017 Rennlist 996 Forum Vegas Get Together. Nice car. Very Speed Yellowy. Love the rocker panels. That thing would look sweet with a turbo/C4S front bumper. Also, 5 extra points for the Austin Powers reference.

i too like to live dangerously! I would be up for helping with plans for sure! Thanks for the welcome all!

POST 11Original post

That's lovely, Speed Yellow cabs are a great look. Agree with KC, a C4S bumper would go well with the skirts. Also, look at bumperplugs for the license plate holes in the front bumper. And the euro-style smoked side lights to replace the orange. Speaking of the Hawks, it'd be nice to have an offensive line at some point this decade...

Clean looking 996, nice pickup! There's a good chance I could make the drive to Vegas for an annual thing. Shoulder seasons are my favorite time to visit, but summer is cool too. Drive out by Red Rock, maybe one to Mt. Charleston, the dam or around the lake. Lots of options.

POST 26Original post

Hi, i'm also from Vegas, love the color. One of my few favorites. Let's get a Vegas Rennlist get together.

POST 27 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 13779177

um....yes! I looked in the regional threads and could t find anything from Vegas. Worst case we can PM and get together a meet once a month.

POST 28Original post

We've discussed having a 996 forum get together for quite some time. DTMiller offered to have it in his driveway. But I think either his mom or his wife put the nix on that. Then, some other people made suggestions of where to hold such a gathering. Generally, the suggestions were to have it in said suggester's hometown. Then, we realized that Gonzo and Kalashnikov both live in Phoenix. And Phoenix is in the desert, just like Vegas is. And, we all like Vegas. So, naturally, everybody but Gonzo and Kalash decided that Gonzo and Kalash should organize a national get together in Vegas this summer. Of course, when I say "everybody", I really mean "just me" but nobody else objected (other than Gonzo and Kalash) which officially made it unanimous. Funny thing is that over the past 3 or 4 months since their appointments as organizers, neither Gonzo or Kalash seem to be doing anything to organize it. That's where you fellas come in. So, don't wait for those guys, just go ahead and start the planning yourselves. Let us know what you decide and start a new thread to share the deets. Build it and they will come. Well, at least some of us will. We are all waiting with bated breath to see what you come up with.

POST 33Original post

I don't know, remember that one time that guy went to a car show and the guy with a Cayman was trying to be nice to a kid? That guy could be Eddie. It's a trap.

POST 34 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So tonight is the first night I have had a minute to spend some time looking through the car after bringing it home. Good news is the old license plates were in with the spare tire/jack and the license plate hole plugs were in one of the plates, so got the holes covered up now. Bad news is, one of the rear wheels, I thought was just curbed at my initial walk around of the car, is damaged pretty good in 2 areas. I had a feeling there was wheel damage based on my drive, but just had t had time to look into it further since. So it looks like I will be on the look out for a new/used set of wheels at some point. 😢

POST 35Original post

Eddie showed more humility in one sentence than that guy showed in an entire thread. I think he's clean.

POST 36Original post

Nice car! Beautiful Wife! Lucky Man! Sorry to hear about the rear wheel damage. RE: Vegas.... Anyone know how much it costs to fly a car from Tampa to LV? Probably cheaper to just buy one there! LOL!

POST 37Original post

I think I was looking at the same car you bought. Is this the wheel? They still have the car listed on CL. That looks fixable.

POST 38Original post

Quotes source post: 13781266

Thanks HawkFan#12. I'm in Snottsdale and always willing to help. And any excuse to visit Vegas does not hurt. Eddie

POST 39Original post

Yea us Florida boys are better off buying the highest mileage 996s we can find near Vegas for this one... pick em up at the airport, thrash them for the weekend, maybe add some custom vinyl, track till brakes/tires give out then bury them in the desert.

POST 40 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 13782767

yes that's the car I bought. I saw that wheel and he said he was going to fix it, never did. But the right rear one is a lot worse. Long story on how I looked at it and ended up buying since I don't live there, but I will get it taken care of one way or the other. Ultinately I wired the money to the guy with promises he would do things, and then didn't do them. I will be leaving Palm Desert Auto Sales a nasty yelp review.

POST 41Original post

Ouch. That's no buena on his part. I think I'm going the private party route. Hope to at least get a feel for the history on the car.

POST 42 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yeah, the good news is I manage 7 body shops for an insurance company so I can get things taken care of at a bit cheaper price.

Hm. They are probably pulling your leg. You need to remove the motor and split the transmission from the motor to correctly verify. I doubt a used car dealer would do that. Do you have any LN enginnering stickers on the car?

very true. I am working with the owner now as their website gloats about the quality of their vehicles and I bought this virtually for the most part. I will update everyone with the outcome, good or bad.

POST 51Original post

I've got those same wheels. $400 for a brand new wheel. Just buy the damn thing and be done with it.

POST 52 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So I had to edit my original post as I have come to the realization that they falsely advertised my car as a C4 AWD, when in fact it is a C2 RWD. not sure if there are any laws about this. Anyone know? this is the craigslist ad. Funny that they removed the picture of the damaged wheel. 2002 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 6 Speed Hard Top Convertible in EXCELLENT Condition http://palmsprings.craigslist.org/ctd/5858838800.html

POST 53Original post

For some reason I can't open your links. But if it was a dealer, then you have a fraud claim (or misreperesentation) claim and you may be able to get some money back if you said you were relying on it to be a Carrera 4. From a legal website - so take it with a grain of salt Proving Fraud and Collecting Damages A victim of auto dealer fraud will likely find a tort action to be the most effective means of inflicting meaningful retribution upon the dealer and obtaining a significant damage award. To establish a common law claim for fraud, the victim must show that the dealer omitted or misrepresented material facts, resulting in a financial loss for the victim. To qualify as material, the facts at issue must pass the “but for” test. In other words, but for the omitted or misrepresented facts, the customer would not have purchased the vehicle. Once fraud is proven, the victim may be entitled to various remedies tailored to the specific circumstances, such as being allowed to surrender an unwanted vehicle and having the court order a refund of all payments made toward the purchase. The victim may also be allowed to cancel any outstanding loan balances or obligations, and receive compensation for wrongful repossession of the vehicle, if that occurred. Court costs and attorney fees may be available, and in cases of especially shameful or predatory conduct by the dealer, the victim may be awarded punitive damages.

POST 54 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 13787176

you may need to copy and paste.

POST 55Original post

Did you check under the car to see if there is a front diff? You may want to "print screen" the Craigslist ad. It's still up. Clearly states AWD in 2 places in the ad. Capture it now before he pulls the ad.

POST 56Original post

This assumes the dealer knew it was a C2, he may not have. He may have been just repeating what he was told when he bought it.

POST 57 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source posts: 13787185, 13787398

The majority of his cars are Porsche so I assume he knows what he is talking about. and don't worry, I have screen shots and have printed the ad to PDF.

POST 58Original post

Did you get a PPI on it? Do you know when the last time the oil filter was changed? Have you checked the car fax? If the oil hasn't been changed recently, pull the oil filter, and pull the paper filter part off so that you can stretch it out over a paper towel. If there are any plastic or metal bits, take a picture and post it. You will lose less than a quart of oil doing this. Assuming it is mechanically sound, it looks like a pretty decent car at pretty decent price. Unless you specifically need the AWD, the C2 is lighter weight and a better performer. Lots of people, including myself, will take a C4 and convert it to a C2 for this very reason.

POST 59Original post

Negligent Misrepresentation If you cannot establish all the required elements of fraud, you may nonetheless be able to establish that the seller made certain negligent misrepresentations. The advantage of negligent misrepresentation is that you need not establish that the seller knew of the falsity of the representations. Instead, you must establish only that the seller made the representations under circumstances indicating a reckless disregard for the truth, or that seller ought to have known that such representations were not true. For example, if a seller represented that the tires of a used car were good, he has a duty to know that they were good. If he made the representation without having sufficiently inspected the tires to know whether the statement was correct, he is subject to the same liability as though he had made a thorough inspection of the tires, knew they were defective, and stated they were good. A seller will never be held liable for misrepresentations if there was no reliance or if the statements were mere "puffing" and not representations. - See more at: http://www.legalmatch.com/law-librar....NXZkDxbM.dpuf

Never forget DASH. Dealers Are PooPoo Heads. All forums are thick with example after example. Whatever your desired outcome is HawkFan#12 from this deception (they knew), I hope it works out for you. Good luck, Eddie

POST 61Original post

There is no reason to false advertise a C2 as a C4. There is a good chance they are just incompetent....

POST 62Original post

Sorry about your troubles, Hawk. Hope you get them straightened out. There is a Porsche group in Vegas that does regular runs. I've never done one with them but the previous owner of my car did. I'm headed over there next week and will get contact info from him. My car came from Vegas and I used to live there. I might be able to arrange a suitable venue for the Vegas get together as well and will attend if my car hasn't sold by then.

POST 65Original post

Yep. At the end of the day you're driving one badass looking 911! Not a bad problem to have!

POST 66Original post

That yellow really looks good, especially with the black wheels. I want to get mine coated or trade them out for black ones. I think it really makes the paint color stand out.

POST 67Original post

Are you sure its a C2?, your vin number comes up as a C4? (got the vin from the craigslist add) you may also want to verify the CL vin to the actual. Just google Porsche options by Vin and you will see that your car is listed as a C4 as well as seeing all the options.

POST 68Original post

give us a pic inside the frunk. Maybe the prev owner painted the calipers. They did get black wheels and remove the badge. Also, most people don't change the door sills, but it is possible.

POST 69 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source posts: 13788295, 13788323

I checked multiple vi decoders and some say C4, others say RWD. The frunk has the red spare in it though and door sills as well as black calipers (I really want red calipers).

POST 70Original post

A quick look under the front of the car will tell you if it's a C4 or 2. You see a rectangular silver metal box under there, it's a C4.

POST 71Original post

Just tach it out to about 7 grand and dump the clutch then see how many black marks are on the pavement!

POST 73Original post

Great color, especially for the desert. Given a choice, I'd take a C2 over a C4 unless I lived in a place with slippery roads. On the other hand, I'd be pissed off enough to confront anyone that sold me a C4 that is a C2.

Soooo....,good news bad news. First the bad news. Trophy Performane had the car about 10 minutes before telling me they had something they wanted to show me: Yes, those are 2 separate holes in the transmission! Along with a bunch of other things (yes they double confirmed it is RWD). So what's the good news you may ask? The dealership is taking it back for a full refund, and sending a truck to tow it back to Palm Desert, CA. Sad to see her go as I was really fond of the color combo, but now starts the hunt again for another 996. I will post another thread once I find another one.

IMHO there is no bad news in this story and this is nothing but good news. Props to dealer for standing behind the sale. Good luck with your search. I'll be glad to be your eyes and ears if you find something in Phoenix. Eddie

I would like to be under $20k, but for the right car, I could probably get up to $25k.

There are a few cabs up here in SLC that have been sitting around. Given the market for 996 cabs I wouldn't be bashful about pressing sellers. They know just like we do that the market is soft with a wide range.
