Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I saw a service check list somewhere as well that read "Every 180 tkm/120 tmls or 12 years for PDK fluid." I honestly changed my ZF Tiptronic fluid at 96K after (15 yrs.) because I was not sure when it was last done and at that particular time the supposed lifetime fluid was black.
Leading evidence: 'Replace fluid every 60k or so' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check list somewhere as well' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I personally feel more comfortable having nice clean fluid running through the system after witnessing how black the 996 Tiptronic fluid and a BMW automatic lifetime tranny fluid was after 90k decided that I would follow the BMW recommended 60K exchange interval.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Lift car maintain car leveled, drain old fluid, remove & clean the oil pan, change the filter and the pan gasket, clean or replace the magnets inside the oil pan, re-install then fill with the fluid till fluid drips from fill plug.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Haven't been able to find any solid concrete info on this. I have a mrk 1 tiptronic that works great. Fluid could be 17 years old for all I know... anyone know the recommended time/mileage trans fluid change intervals?
There are a lot of opinions on this. It's not an easy DIY and it's not cheap to have a shop do it.
I think I read 100k miles somewhere. I've also heard people say to leave it alone if there are no problems. My trans was/is slipping a little in 4th gear. I had it checked and they did a full service on it. It didn't help. They said it will eventually need a rebuild. The service cost $450.
You're going to get different opinions.
Me personally changed the fluid every 60k or so
You don't have to use oem fluid...i used redline
my indie charged 350 or so out the door
the fluid has to be filled at a certain temp
When I had new tranny mounts done, also had tranny service performed (flush, fill, new filter) at around 70K miles. FWIW, I had zero problems with "shifting"
I have two other Luxury German vehicles and they also claim to be lifetime fluid. But actually get service or fluid exchanged at intervals now (recommended by automaker). I personally feel more comfortable having nice clean fluid running through the system after witnessing how black the 996 Tiptronic fluid and a BMW automatic lifetime tranny fluid was after 90k decided that I would follow the BMW recommended 60K exchange interval. Now that is a personal choice, some will argue that if its fine then leave it alone and honestly everyone is entitled to camp on whichever side of the fence they choose, their money their car their choice. Me personally I perform the maintenance on the cars because I like to know everything is in good standing. The DIY for the transmission fluid exchange is actually quite easy. There is plenty online and they usually go as follows. Lift car maintain car leveled, drain old fluid, remove & clean the oil pan, change the filter and the pan gasket, clean or replace the magnets inside the oil pan, re-install then fill with the fluid till fluid drips from fill plug. Warm transmission up then top off (or add more fluid) once at operating temp.
As per Porsche service schedule ATF and filter change every 90.000miles (see attachment).
ZF itself even advises shorter intervals. As it will extend the life of the transmission. I do not remember what was the mileage they put.
Something around 40-60k miles depending on driving style would be my advise. If you track the car maybe more, yearly even, or a bit longer if you notice if he ATF is still in good shape.
Thanks for the info. I have around 42k miles on the car (2000 C2). Looks like I'll likely get the transmission fluid changed at the start of next season and definitely before she hits 60k miles
"So like most things with these cars it's probably fine but spend at least a few hundred to a thousand to "fix" it anyway just in case."
Anestheticg, I do believe that is the Motto.
If you know the history of the car ... it is more likely to be fine. The ZF tranny is more fragile then the Mercedes of the mk2 which is considered rock solid.
Even ZF advises to do some regular maintenance intervals (the same for the tranny in other brands like BMW, Audi, etc)
I think that for any car after so many years it could be wise to look after the moving parts and its fluids not, even If they are branded as lifetime or lifelong.
At least as a new owner of the car and reaching i.e. 50k miles you could consider it. For the manual cars you change it also at regular intervals.
