I did not find much on the web but I looked around in the carbon fiber companies web sites looking for instructions for replacing the top cover with a carbon fiber replacement and was able to figure it out.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I may be in the wrong forum, but I have 2001 TT. I just noticed the black trim on the bottom of the driver side mirror is loose. Do you think a clip broke off or I need an adhesive. I have posted same info on turbo forum- just trying to cover all bases. Thank you Gary Pearce

POST 2Original post

When I bought my 996 my driver's side lower mirror cover was loose and I did not notice it so it was one of my first maintenance items. The specifics are a little vague now but I can tell you first the part is cheap. It was around 9 dollars through sunset. On 996s they are all the same. There was only one mirror option and the lower cover was not painted, don't know if that is true for the turbo or not. The lower cover actually attaches with molded in plastic clips, from the inside, to the mirror mechanism and the top cover slips over it and then bolts in. On mine the outside clip was broken off. The fix is to remove the mirror, remove the upper housing and then replace the lower housing. It is not very hard and took maybe twenty minutes. I did not find much on the web but I looked around in the carbon fiber companies web sites looking for instructions for replacing the top cover with a carbon fiber replacement and was able to figure it out. Hardest part of the whole job is trusting yourself to not break the mirror while removing it.

POST 3Original post

agree, buy a new one, but I think you could snap in the new one w/out removing the top part

POST 4Original post

See diagram here http://www.autoatlanta.com/porsche-p...section=809-10 Part #10. Just snaps on lower part of mirror.
