Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Use time' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Use they get easily contaminated and wear out' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. Heim joints are not meant for road use, they get easily contaminated and wear out.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

The ends look like oem, but the oem links aren't adjustable. It looks almost like someone cut the oem links in half and threaded the link rod and mated it to an adjustable barrel...Seems like an awful lot of work for an adjustable link seeing as you can buy a pair for around $200...
^^^ If the ends (the heim joints) are good and you have the tools and ability to thread the rods (left and right hand taps/dies) I don't see why they wouldn't work fine. It just seems like an awful lot of work - unless you really enjoy that type of thing, in which case it would probably be a fun little project...
You are correct! Heim joints are the ones you usually see on adjustable drop links... I don't know what the stock ones are called, but it's some type of spherical/ball joint... (which is what a Heim joint is...). Please do tell if you know the correct terminology/nomenclature.
I call them ball joints because that's what they look like. Heim joints are not meant for road use, they get easily contaminated and wear out. This is what a him joint is.

Hmmm - that's what I thought...go take a look at any adjustable drop link - Heim joint
Easily contaminated? Yes, but they make boots for them if you're worried about that...
They're used all the time. Take a look at bumpsteer tie-rod ends...
AFAIK, all the adjustable drop links and/or bump-steer kits are aftermarket (not sure what Porsche did with the GT3/Turbo - I know they came with coil-overs, so maybe they had adjustable drop-links as well). I've got adjustable drop links on my car for about two years now, and they're still in good shape (I got boots but never installed them - maybe this coming fall/winter).
Tie Rod Ends,, Prob off a small import, common way to make the links the aluminum bit is available from dirt track sources..
They are very tough, cheap and you can buy the ends at a Auto-zone.. They are already threaded l&r cause,, alignment..
The ends look just like the ends on the stock non-adjustable drop links (except the stock are not adjustable - solid un-threaded rod welded to the ends) - never seen them on adjustable links though...
[QUOTE=Neto;15909480]I need to change them, they are making noise... these are the rear ones but dont look oem. Out from a 99 996
[/
Take them to NAPA and get them to match up new ends.QUOTE]
Ever looked at the tie rods on a Suzuki swift? Or a Geo Metro? they are TINY..
Or check out the ones on any of the Big Quads or Side by sides.. same size..
Even some garden tractors..
Nice thing is they don't get full of dirt like a rod end..
