Never usually a fan of stripes and like the clean look but I think because I'm usually a fan of black cars it usually wouldn't go, whereas a bright colour seems to led itself a little to it.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

36 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

hey guys Could do with an opinion or two Apologies if in the wrong section, not exactly technical.. Making some slight visual tweaks to my 996, and generally love it but just one or two things to make it perfect. Here's what she looks like now: But I can't get rid of the idea that some offset stripes would go well with the colour and just set it off nicely. Excuse the poor ms paint job but I was thinking something like this: running over the spoiler, front to back. What do we think? Cheesy or looks the part? I can't decide! Never usually a fan of stripes and like the clean look but I think because I'm usually a fan of black cars it usually wouldn't go, whereas a bright colour seems to led itself a little to it. Was also toying with the idea of white alloys of some description but I do like the gemballa / speedlines so probably won't change them

POST 2Original post

Black rims. No stripe. My two cents. Car looks awesome without the stripe IMO...T

POST 4Original post

Re the stripes, regardless what the rest of us think, do whatever will please you. But if they're not removable when the time comes to sell the car - I know, you're going to take it with you to the grave - any such non-removable mods could seriously limit the number of possible buyers.

POST 5Original post

Just do vinyl stripes. They look pretty cool in your mockup and if you don't like them, you can always just pull them right off, no problem.

POST 6Original post

Oh, definitely do the stripes. It's OK to be different. If someone doesn't like them, tell them to "STFU, it's my car."

POST 7Original post

I think the car looks great as it is. Your aerokit adds enough pizzazz. If you want to add stripes, personally I think Porsche side stripes like on my Cayman, or a centered stripe down the middle (fat center stripe flanked by two thin stripes) would look better than the offset one. Definitely use vinyl so you can remove them if you change your mind later.

POST 8Original post

Agreed that if you stripe...stripe it down the middle. It's more aerodynamic that way...

Agree with stripes on the side. Classic.

hehe definitely!! I'm just literally down the middle with whether or not I like the stripy look so appreciating the opinions Will be in vinyl for sure so I can remove them when/if I shop her in (although ideally I want to keep her alongside the replacement, still a year off though so we'll see) Might have a play and see what a centre stripe looks like I probably won't go the side stripes as I want to just keep the Gemballa decals on there love the cayman, first time I've seen one in yellow now I think about it I thought it lost a bit of top end with stripes but quicker off the mark?

POST 11Original post

I plan to start with the side stripes on mine like this photo and then think about a center stripe..

POST 12Original post

personally NOT a fan of stripes but this is one that tickled my fancy

POST 14Original post

No stripe It's a beautiful car and I love the ride height btw. However if you absolutely must **** with it, my vote is the side stripe .

POST 15Original post

If you want to improve the appearance go with one of the dozen options (covers, tint, vinyl) that make our headlights resemble that of a 911. It's extremely controversial on this site but there's a reason you won't find anything in the market that will make 911 headlights look like 996 lights. At least after five years Porsche went back to 911 lights and haven't look back since. Hopefully they never will.

POST 16Original post

I wouldn't touch it. I think the color says enough...the last think is needs is something that says "look at me" or that spells out the word "Porsche."

POST 17Original post

I am a fan of stripes, and added them to my 914s. Here are before and after pix.

POST 18Original post

Cuda, where did you get the side decal sets, need for my 996, not the 914, thank you

POST 19Original post

I'd vote side stripes/script and scuderia style center or just do the hood matte black. Or do nothing, it looks great as is

POST 20Original post

Quotes source post: 13018119

Ebay, just do a search for "Porsche side stripe." Make sure that the seller specifies 3M material.

POST 21Original post

I should have a set of Magnagrafik Carrera magnetic side stripes in my garage somewhere that I had for my 993 along with the hodd protector square. Never used them, I do not think the hood piece will work but the side stripes might if interested in non-permanent solution, My 996 is basalt black so I can't use them.

Has anyone seen the double stripes like in the photo on a 996. Was thinking of grey on my silver 2000 C2.

Stripes look great on your car! Would you or have you ever seen stripes on the hood?

POST 28Original post

I don't get the "Porsche" stripes. Everybody who sees our cars knows exactly what they're looking at. I just don't see the need to remind everyone from literally every direction.

POST 29Original post

Quotes source post: 13690780

Agree. I tend to take a "less is more" approach. IMHO, 911's in particular need no stripes.

POST 30Original post

Understand the no need to stripe thing but maybe it is the want to personalize your car. I'm torn between always wanting to put a stripe on a car and loving the plain as is look. Nice thing about vinyl is you can put on and remove when you get tired of it.

POST 31Original post

Do you know why the Porsche 911 R sells for $300,000 above MSRP? Stripes. It's the stripes.

POST 32Original post

Did someone say stripes? Relax. They are stickers, and not even on your car.

POST 33Original post

Vote for Stripe. I went for the discreet tone on tone look.

POST 34Original post

Reviving this thread so that hopefully I can find a quick answer to put it back to bed. I am looking for the online company that sells Porsche decals. I thought the name of the company was on this thread, but apparently it is not. I'm not looking for the ebay stuff. The company I'm looking for based on other Rennlisters recommendations custom make each decal (stripe or otherwise) that is ordered.

POST 35Original post

I think it was these guys (seem to remember them being in Canada for some reason) http://carreradecals.com/

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
