Yup, send them a note, but was hoping to work on this over the weekend, so thought I would check here.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
21 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

I just bought the latest Durametric "enthusiast kit", and tried to plug into my 996 C4S this morning.
However, I keep getting the message "cable plugged in not compatible with software".
Wondering if anyone else has had the same issue?
I've tried it on two machines:
1) Windows 7 run through VM Fusion on a Mac
2) Windows 10.
I didn't do anything to enable .NET framework on the Windows 7, because instructions cite not needed for Windows 7. I've uninstalled and installed again, and I've installed drivers separately. On Win7, I got the prompt for "driver installed" after plugging in for the first time, but did not get it for Win10.
I've tried the following:
- I've followed the instructions on cable connections, i.e. key to first turn, then connect cable to car, then connect cable to usb, then launch program.
- Tried both latest Durametric 6.5.2.0 and Durametric 5.0
- Light at car end of cable shows green.

Guess I get lucky. Any time I've reached out to them it's Durham that responds to me directly. Great guy to work with and super helpful. Tends to respond at all hours too so very little time wasted in the back and forth.
That usually fixes it for me. I really wish someone would develope another software for Porsche cars bc I'm not a fan at all of durametric. It's really lacking to what it can do. I've decided I'm going to find a piwis system.
That is the fault of Porsche more than anything. They lock the various modules down and do other tricks to intentionally make it hard.
Durham told me what he went through to support the 996's ABS module. Just ridiculous and it's only down to try to keep owners beholden to dealers
I have the exact same issue on the one I just received myself. Must have been a faulty batch!
I sent mine away on Friday so waiting for their diagnosis and to see if I also end up getting a new one.
I ordered one with Bruce, mine also doesn't work so now I to have to ship mine back as well.
Not very impressive that all of us have bad cables, maybe I should have just got the generic one from ebay from CN I bet that worked fine and was a heck of a lot cheaper.
We need to remember this Durametric fiasco for the future because now we have no idea now about the long term functionality of their cables.Unless Durametric tell us what went wrong and assure us of long term warranty on a cable that MAY have manufacturing defects that won;t show up for a while ?
The suggestion to buy from China on EBay is awful but logical. Is that where Durametric is buying anyway ?
Be aware that some cheapo clone cables have limited functionality:
http://986forum.com/forums/general-d...ht-solved.html
There are also a bunch of problems caused by failure to download the latest software upgrades or Win7/Win 10 compatibility issues. So caution required before we dump on Durametric.
Let's hope Durametric step up and explain/reassure those of us who bought the cable direct from them - otherwise they give their business away to the Chinese clone guys and we all suffer.
Well what also bugs me is that I had to pay $12 to get the cable back to them and will probably have to pay to get it shipped back to me. So $20+ down the drain before I even try it for the first time. So there goes a big chunk of my group buy discount.
I know things happen but it does seem unusual that more than one of us encountered this right at the same time.
Someone at Durametric will read this Thread (I hope) and weep. Durametric designs a great product. We all recommend it to each other on Rennlit and elsewhere. This enthusiasm builds the Durametric brand. We discourage the purchase of Durametric clones from China on EBay. And then Durametric themselves sometimes sell a product worse than a cheap clone. Worse ,they don't step up and replace the product honorably. They make their customer a victim . On EBay you at least have the Resolution Center to support you. With Durametric, you pay for their screw up. Net result for some - get the clone. How sad is that ? Please Durametric , restore your halo.
I went through a similar issue back in March, so it's been going on for a while. After 3 months of back and forth with them, they finally conceded that my cable was faulty and sent a working replacement.
I bought the the cable to fix an issue and didn't really want it to take 3+ months.
They need better quality control and to implement a speedy cable exchange program that doesn't involve them blaming you car and its OBDII port, sending you on a wild goose chase.
Logically ,the best strategy is to buy a used ,good Durametric here on Rennlist Classifieds - even if it is the sme price as a new one from Durametric. At least the Customer Service will be no worse and the product will work.?
yeah the fact that we have to prove to them that their 300 cable is faulty and they dont even offer to pay for return shipping, and they will check the cable and let us know if its broken or not I was not impressed by
I explained to them that
a) i have numerous other cables that work fine
b) tried two pc's and operating systems
c) sent them screenshots and a video of the problems
d) have worked in IT for 20 years !
and then a response like this not offering to pay for the shipping, or to preship me a cable etc didnt go over well with me
Upon receipt of the cable we will test it and let you know what we find. If we confirm the trouble we'll replace the cable. Turn-around time is typically 1 - 2 business days.
My cable is on the way back today as I just received an email from them. No mention of return shipping so it might only be the charge of getting it out to them. In any case if it works then I'm only out one week in turnaround time. Granted if I needed it for something urgent I would be upset but no critical need right now.
