I guess one of the pitfalls of using my 996 as a daily driver is encountering unusual situations that Porsche probably didn't think through when designing the 996.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I guess one of the pitfalls of using my 996 as a daily driver is encountering unusual situations that Porsche probably didn't think through when designing the 996. This morning I was going to take a box to the UPS store as Grandma bought my son the same train set that we had just purchased through Amazon. It was a good sized box so I contemplated taking the backup SUV that is normally reserved for dirty jobs. But being a perfect weather morning and wanting to drive my P-car I took the 996 instead. Placed the box in the passenger seat and went back inside to grab a few things and get ready to roll. Open the car door and it smells like something electrical is burning. Check around the car and nothing appears to be on fire. Check outside the garage and still nothing but back in the car the smell is pretty strong. Turn on my ignition and everything checks out and then I realized that the box was pressing up against the cigarette lighter! So it was pushed in heating up and causing that smell! It had only been like 2-3 minutes but I guess since it's something that is never used it just created quite the aroma. Glad I didn't leave it there overnight or I might have had a really bad incident in the morning. Well chalk another incident up to experience!

You are lucky Fernando to have found the problem BEFORE a fire started.
