Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Looking for help identifying the cause of damage to the gears on my transmission. This is a Porsche G96/31 with 105K miles out of a 2003 C4S. I do not know the service history and I did not change the fluid since I got it. I put 10K miles on it with hard driving at autocross and track days. Symptoms of problem was a loud clicking noise only audible in first and reverse gears, no issues shifting or staying in gear. Inspection reveals a lot of galling on the input shaft 1st gear and minimal on the 2nd gear teeth, the mating gears and bearings appear in good condition with some wear but not abnormal. The gear oil was clean when I drained it. No big flakes on the magnet, just dust and sludge. My assumption is the gear oil was either the incorrect type or not sufficiently rated for sever duty imposed by the track driving and caused overheating or cavitation on the first gear. I want to prevent this from happening again on the replacement. So what do you think?

POST 2Original post

Confused that the symptom was "clicking" but the only damage is galling. Suggests that there may be undiscovered damage. There are a few gearbox experts who drop in occasionally - GTGears & Eric for example may opine? It is such a specialist subject that few among us (inc.me!)have enough useful knowledge to help you. Suggest you call CMS and GBox just ask them https://californiamotorsports.net/co...boxes-for-sale http://www.gboxweb.com/

POST 3Original post

Another vote for contacting GBox - after reading the rebuild DIY that someone else posted, there's no way in hell I'm opening up the transmission. I am far too inept to successfully pull that off.
