Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hiya, new member here. Got an itch to scratch after owning a 2007 Cayman which had to go due to lack of rear seats... due to budget, 996.2 is my pick. Yes I know they can grenade itself in quite a few ways but i'm budgeting for a engine rebuild down the line. Anyone know this car - looks like loads of miles, but plenty of mods and seems like an enthusiast owner. Opinions? Snog/Marry/Avoid? Link : http://www.pistonheads.com/classifie...s-done/6623422

POST 2Original post

Seller lost all credibility on the second sentence, "If you are looking for a 996.2 you will know to stay away from early 3.4 cars and low mileage autos!"

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey , thanks for the input, care to elaborate ? Are 3.4 autos less prone to scoring issues ? (I'm still doing my research )

POST 4Original post

Contrary to what you may be reading, these cars really are not time bombs waiting to explode. Yes, some cars have grenaded their engine. But, all things considered, they are very reliable and easy to maintain. The early 996.1 cars had factory dual row IMS bearings which have proven to be very reliable.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks - I know the risks roughly... I was more interested in opinions about the particular one I found

POST 7Original post

"IMS done?"....ask to see exactly where documentation is in the binder. If car passes a thorough PPI, then DO IT.

POST 8Original post

mock the guy's writing all you want but it looks like a really good car given the mileage (relative to other ones near 100k). this sounds nice along with ohlins. It's priced low enough to set some aside for a downstream rebuild imo. ----->
