Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Checked the fuses for head unit and amp and messed with the wires for the phone adapter.

Sometimes when I have the car in the tech will connect a very sophisticated battery charger/conditioner to the battery and let it go through a full charge, discharge, charge cycle to "recondition" the battery and then everything is fine after and I watch how often I use the car to ensure I use it often enough - several times a week -- and long enough to fully recharge the battery and keep it topped up.

Suggestion
However, what I have found is the behavior is a precursor of sorts to a battery getting past its replace by date.

Suggestion
After the battery reconditioning then and regular use the radio is fine.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Ran to the store before heading out to a Christmas party... When I got back in the car had no sound coming from the radio.
Everything eelse on the radio worked fine but no sound.
Base sound system..... I have read that this is a common problem that can come and go. Anyone else experience this?
Thx!
My '02 coupe had the same problem about two years ago. Volume **** would spin, but no change. If I was ever able to get it to work I would set it on a volume that was OK, and then not touch it. Annoying, but OK. I looked into aftermarket stereos, but most of them wouldn't look right and I couldn't find a plug and play adaptor. (Not afraid of hard wiring as I've done it many times, just didn't feel motivated to deal with it.). After about 9 months it suddenly started working again, and has ever since. Go figure!
My 2003 996 Turbo has done something similar a few times. Get in the car and start the engine and after a bit drive away. Once under way then I turn my attention to the radio to get a traffic report. No sound. Everything appears to work ok but no sound. Turning the radio off then back on doesn't help.
The techs have offered mixed signals (no pun). One claimed the problem was because I have a V1 radar detector power cord plugged into the cigarette lighter socket or because I have an OBD2 data/trip logger plugged into the car's OBD2 port. (I have the same in my Boxster and it has *never* manifested this radio behavior.)
Another said it was a problem that a TSB or something addressed. Never could get a solid solution other than both said if I turned off the engine this would resurrect the radio. I'm reluctant to turn the engine off again after just starting it and often I'm on the highway when I turn my attention to the radio and leaving the highway and turning off the engine is not a real option for me. Pulling the radio fuse was also suggested but that's more bother than turning off the engine.
Besides I tried the engine off thing and it works but I have to leave the engine off some minutes with the car locked until the car's electrical system shuts all the way down and power to the radio is totally removed.
However, what I have found is the behavior is a precursor of sorts to a battery getting past its replace by date. Not long after I experience the dead radio syndrome the Turbo's battery needs to be replaced. By "not long after" I'm talking some weeks, a month or months of time.

I have locked and unlocked the car... Let it sit over night.... Pulled the head unit... Checked the fuse in the back... Checked the fuses for head unit and amp and messed with the wires for the phone adapter. Other than now having a hum from the speakers.... I still have no music.
