Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Reported fix
I took the switch out, took it apart, cleaned all the contacts inside with "contact cleaner" put it back together and problem solved.

I replaced the relay with a wells brand one from amazon.

Suspected cause
I think I had the same problem but it was the relay.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello,
Question on how to troubleshoot headlights. Driving home from dinner this evening I noticed that my lights didn't turn on. I was able to drive home with my fog lights (they worked) so did my parking lights (front and back).
The only lights not working are both headlights (Hi or Low beam engaged). However, when I initiated a high-beam flash (pull the high-beam lever) the high beams on both sides came on. So on the dark winding road I just held that in...
At first I thought fuse, but the high beams partially working puzzled me. Any ideas as I troubleshoot this over the weekend?
Thanks,
Johnny
Failing switch is a common problem and easy fix. The search function above will reveal more posts about the same from others.
Good luck and let us know how it goes.
I think I had the same problem but it was the relay. I cant quite remember the symptoms but the headlights didnt work and I think the high beams did.
I replaced the relay with a wells brand one from amazon. It was the same exact relay that came out. I have a Canadian car (headlights always on) though so may be different.
Maybe my search keywords are wrong, but I can't find any info about the problem. You're saying that the dash switch itself is the problem? Can you post a link to info?
Thanks for the reply.
Johnny
Same thing happened to me. Take out the switch and thoroughly spray electrical cleaner in every orifice and work it through all positions. Did this a few years ago and its been perfect ever since. Cheapest and most effective fix I ever did. Dont let the pristine appearance of the contacts fool you like it did for me the first time around.
I had the same thing happen. I took the switch out, took it apart, cleaned all the contacts inside with "contact cleaner" put it back together and problem solved. Option 2 buy a new switch.
When I first saw the title of this thread, before I clicked on it, it sounded like a gun had jammed. I thought to myself ... "
Man, this guy must
REALLY
hate 996 headlights" ...
.
Ok - I'll get the contact spray out (I keep that for my tube guitar amps...).
Thank you everyone. I'll update once resolved or I have any trouble shooting something else....
