Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I saw plenty of posts on how to replace but nothing about attempting to repair.
Leading evidence: 'Replace but nothing about attempting' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace but nothing about attempting' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

At one time I wanted to change the vent colors on my car from Savannah Beige to Dark Grey and I posted an RL thread asking how to change out the vents.

Use vinyl, especially since leather won't be expensive

There's no way I'd go through all that work and use vinyl, especially since leather won't be expensive.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Didn't find anything while searching for this so forgive me if I missed it. My wooden door pockets and handles are cracked, as they do. To replace them the kit is $1400 on Suncoast. Personally I'm not a fan of the wood anyway. The previous owner peeled off the outer layer on one of them and was going to sand it down and cover it with leather. I was thinking of sanding them down and painting them black and vinyl wrapping them or something. I know, I know, more of a band aid fix for $1400 is a bit much for me right now. I want to do back partly because it is far easier to find than Natural Brown/Leather but it will also help break up the colors a little better. I can find black ones on eBay easy enough and they are significantly less money but has anyone tried to do this before or repair them in any way?
You may want to use the search function. I remember a similar thread that was posted in the last 6 months or so. I don't remember what the suggested solutions were.
Personally, I like the dark wood (the lighter wood, forget what it is called, I don't like at all). I know wood isn't generally popular on RL, but the standard 996 interior is too monochromatic for my taste, and I think wood breaks it up more effectively than contrasting colors. At one time I wanted to change the vent colors on my car from Savannah Beige to Dark Grey and I posted an RL thread asking how to change out the vents. One poster said something along the lines of "you have a highly optioned interior, you should just leave it". That post really stuck with me, and I decided not to do it and haven't been tempted since.
Of course, if you really hate the wood, change it. Leather is available in any color if you find the right source, and it is inexpensive for the amount you need. There's no way I'd go through all that work and use vinyl, especially since leather won't be expensive. I suspect you would need to take out every existing crack, otherwise it seems likely those imperfections will be at least a bit visible through the leather surface. You'd probably also need to sand the rest quite a bit so the wood base doesn't crack in new places over time after the leather is on.
If it was me, I'd definitely try to keep the wood. Really only the clear coat is cracking from what I can see, so I'd take the one that is sanded, clean/even out the wood surface so it all has the same color, and the spray it with clear coat. I have no idea, but I suspect that would be a permanent solution if you don't put the clear on too thick (when it's too thick, the huge temperature fluctuations in a car interior can cause it to crack, especially since wood probably expands/contracts a lot more more than other materials).
Thanks for all of the responses. I definitely plan on going with black, be it piano black paint or leather. I'm not a fan of the wood but I do like the contrasting color to break up the monotony. Figured I'd try it and see how it looks. If I don't like it, time wasted but if I do then I saved a bunch.
