Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I recently used a smoke machine to test for intake leaks due to high fuel trims.
Leading evidence: 'Use smoke machine' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace plastic elbow' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Also, looks like I need to replace the plastic elbow.

I tried to put some smoke down that pipe when testing for intake leak, but I couldn't see the smoke come out anywhere and not even sure where I should be looking.

I have seen people put a little breather filter on the transmission vent hose and eliminate the TB intake hose with one from from a 996 manual or use a silicone intake hose.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have an '02 C4S automatic. I recently used a smoke machine to test for intake leaks due to high fuel trims. I found smoke coming out of the plastic elbow (red arrow). Can anyone tell me where the two pipes from this plastic elbow go? Also, looks like I need to replace the plastic elbow. I believe that the part number is: 99923049840. Can someone confirm that this is correct before I order it. Lastly, I am curious where the small left hose from the rubber intake tube (green arrow) goes. I believe that this is for automatic transmission only, but can't see where ti actually goes. I tried to put some smoke down that pipe when testing for intake leak, but I couldn't see the smoke come out anywhere and not even sure where I should be looking. Thanks
Red arrow = AOS hose
Green arrow = transmission vent line (only automatics have this)
The part number is definitely for the elbow

Might ask when ordering if it includes the two O-rings
Double check your part number here

DBJoe,
Thanks for the prompt response. Is there a separate part number for the o-ring? I would just buy o-rings instead of the plastic elbow if available. Also, has anyone just replaced this elbow with a rubber 90 degree rubber hose? Seems like would be better then dealing with the o-ring seal.
From the PelicanParts link and picture, it appears to include the O-rings. For $15 I would just get the elbow and move on. Or, pop off the hose and take the O-ring to the hardware store.
Regarding the transmission vent line (green arrow). Seems like a rather strange engineering decision to take air after MAF for this. A leak along the way would allow unmeasured air to come in. Why didn't they just add a nipple to the airbox before the MAF for this, so as to have filtered but pre-MAF air. Seems to me like a more reliable option.
Beats me. I have seen people put a little breather filter on the transmission vent hose and eliminate the TB intake hose with one from from a 996 manual or use a silicone intake hose.
