The transmission bushing/mount is something you can check fairly easily...
Leading evidence: 'Check fairly easily' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check fairly easily' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I was researching replacing my center console and the cost for a new one in my color was $450.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello, after many years of lusting a Porsche 911 finally I've bought one. Here in Italy the prices for the 996s are starting to climb after years of lows and so was now or never for me. I've found this 996 with 86.000 kms (about 54.000 miles) and the peculiar color combination got me. The black metallic paint with black wheel and the super rare and unusual green interior to my eyes is a good combination (see pictures below).
The car is full optional: complete soft leather interior, electric seats, sunroof, carbon inserts, Tiptronic transmission, 4wd, xenon lights, PCM1, etc. Just before selling me the car the previous owner did a complete service to it: engine oil and filters, oil and filter for the Titronic, spark plugs, belt change, a new thermostat, radiator liquid and a new set of rear N rated Michelin Pilot Sport.
The car is driving really well, but I'd like to ask the experts of these forum an opinion on a
noise
that the car does when traveling at constant speed at about 40 mph and above. It is the same noise that makes the car in the
video below
that is NOT mine but has a similar interior. My suspect is that the noise comes from the Tiptronic gearbox but I'm not sure since it has received a service with fresh oil and filter. Thank you.

Congrats! Beautiful car... That's an interior color "only a mother could love" ! But as long as you love it, that's all that matters
r.e. your transmission... I don't hear anything particularly out of the ordinary. Maybe a little fairly normal NVH... Would you happen to know if the transmission mount has been changed from original, or if a "transmission mount insert" has been installed?
Than you. No I'm not aware of transmission mount changed. Below the sound recorded from inside my car. You car hear the acute "uuuuuuu" at constant speed; the noise stops when you release the accelerator as did the car in the previous YouTube video.

Yes, I hear it - I just don't think it's unusual unless you know that the car has a new stock transmission mount bushing. If the transmission mount bushing is new (and without an insert of any kind) it should be virtually silent. If it's the original stock mount, it's possible that it's torn/collapsed or that there has been an insert installed. Either of these scenarios will give you some of that NVH/noise.
The wheel bearings (4) or the pinion bearing in the trans can make the noise you are referring to. Take the car to a shop that is familiar with the 996 and that also has a "electronic chassis ears". The chassis ears has 6 sensors/microphones that can be placed at 6 different locations on the engine/transmission/chassis and can be listened to separately from 6 channels with headphones to determine which sensor is closest to the noise. This is the best way to determine where the noise is coming from since sound can travel and echo and be misleading at times.
If the noise is from a wheel bearing it's no big deal, if it's from the pinion bearing it's a big deal (especially since you have a ZF Tip).
Not necessarily. It depends on the exact position of the damage to the inner or outer race.
On the drive wheels, if the damage to the bearing race is on the front side at the 3 0'clock (right hand side) or 9 O'clock (left hand side) position it will make noise when under acceleration as the torque pulls the wheel forward putting pressure on the damaged area.
If the damage is all the way around the race, it will make noise regardless if you are under acceleration or coasting.
Thank you all for you suggestions. Yesterday I went to a mechanic specialized in automatic gearbox here in Milan area and he supposed could be the pump inside the Tiptronic but was a guess he was not sure. Tomorrow I'll go to another specialist in automatics to hear from them. My last chance is the Porsche dealer but i'd like to avoid if possible because they are very expensive and if it's the gearbox they dismantle the it and then send it to the said specialist and charge double the price.

While it could be a pinion bearing (or a wheel bearing), why wouldn't you start with the simple stuff? The transmission bushing/mount is something you can check fairly easily... I would start there
That has to be a rare combo. The good news is that parts for that interior color are as low a possible. I was researching replacing my center console and the cost for a new one in my color was $450. For the green color it was just over $100.
