Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Anyway, went to another city (Auckland) for a conference, browsed a local auction site for Porsches (as you do), and spotted a very recent ad for a clean, basic 2010 997.2 C2, PDK, imported from the UK.

Although now I'm contemplating keeping the new plates for myself and get a new set for the 996.

Fired an email to the dealer, he seemed responsive enough and willing to bring the car to the conference venue for a test drive.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Not necessarily planned, but have always wanted a 997.2. Nothing too fast as the speed limit in NZ is 100kph, and a 0-60 time of 5 seconds is more than enough.

Fired an email to the dealer, he seemed responsive enough and willing to bring the car to the conference venue for a test drive. Also sent him a few pictures of my 996 for the trade-in.
Test drive completed, got a few pictures, talked about the price and I parted ways with the dealer. Over the next few days we 'negotiated' over email to get a price point where both of us agreed. By now I have flown back home (Wellington), and we continued to 'negotiate' via email which consisted of an email a day of a counteroffer from each side. After some more research on prices, desirability and potential depreciation of 997.2, I decided to buy the car.
My research seemed to point to the stable prices of 997.2 in NZ due to the very low volume of supply while demand is continuing to be high. Seems that as long as I'm not doing mega miles, my ownership cost should mostly be regular maintenance.
Logistically, the dealer will send the car to Wellington by a transporter, deliver it to my home address, pick up my 996, put it in the truck and drive it back to Auckland.
Anyway, here's the new-to-me 997.2 which is still in Auckland. Ownership transfers will happen tomorrow, although the actual swap will happen on Monday at the latest.
Because I have a personal plate on the 996, I had to get a new one for it and transfer my plates to the 997.2. Here is the new plate from the local DMV, notice anything very coincidental here? Regular plates are given randomly so I wouldn't have a choice. This is completely random, the new owner will be happy. Although now I'm contemplating keeping the new plates for myself and get a new set for the 996.
So after a very short 7 years, I'll be checking the 997 although I don't think it will be as lively, crazy or completely mental (Good week thread) like here. This 996 is the car that I kept the longest!!
Very nice upgrade, congrats... Your 996 looks great too and even has the rear parking sensors, that's really cool, didn't know that option exist on older 996's. Cheers,
Congrats on the change, I'm sure you'll love it. 997.2 values are very solid, looks like 991.1 values are coming down to meet them.
I tried to justify trading my 996 for a 997.2 as well, just couldn't with the 997.2 being over twice as expensive here (in US) and how similar they were to drive. Stop in and let us know how you like it after awhile.
Thanks for the kind words sirs (and madams?).
@rymerc - it was around 2.5 times the trade-in value of the 996. However, over a period of two/three months this 997.2 is one of the 'youngest' 2010 (MY2011) around, has lower mileage, and the 'cheapest'. While it's the barest (non-imported ones usually are more better equipped) - the price difference to the next cheapest 997.2 was NZD10,000.
@astro - 858xx kms, 2003 C4 Cab, tiptronic, got around USD23,000. 996.2 of the same specs is selling around USD25,000-USD27,000, regardless that's from private seller r dealer. 997.1 with scored bores sold for around USD2,000 more.
So I put the hardtop for the first time since I owned this car (7 years!). Wow - it doesn't look good at all. Looks like an afterthought and doesn't fit very well too. What were they thinking?
Where/how does one store the hardtop stand? I just put it on the rear seats after they are folded down.
@Botsy - yup, rear parking sensors are a life (paint) saver.
@dan - it's been a while for sure, but it's been a pleasure though unlike some other cars that I couldn't wait to get rid of.
Now it's really gone.
Still at work trying to craft up an email to a bunch of solution architects on why one can't get/buy DevOps out of the box magically when the phone rang. "Hey, I'm delivering your Carrera. Are you home?" After assuring the transporter that I'll be home in 15 mins, I ran out and drove home as fast as legally allowed.
This is what I saw driving up the street.
After 15 mins in the rain, it finally parked up in my driveway
After an interesting conversation where he didn't realise he was to take my 996.
And after another 15 mins in the rain
It was a sad and happy day.
Unbelievably after 6 years and 11 months with no issue whatsoever (apart from the voltage regulator gone bad), it was gone. Hopefully the new owner will take better care of it, and may it lives a happy life (as a car) - I know, I'm feeling a bit sentimental.
