I ran a 968 for a number of years and I can understand you are very quick in the slalom.

I personally really like to looks of a clean C2 996 when it is lowered a bit.

I think it suffers from that I can only set -1.8 camber max in the front.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all!
I am Peter based over in Sweden. I have been lurking on the list sneaking information and entertainment last few years. Just thought I should introduce myself and share some stuff back.
A year ago I bought my 2:nd 996 - an absolutely beautiful C2, black, with H&R club sport suspension + sway bars. Otherwise than that absolutely standard, 43000 miles. And, oh, engine shot.
I bought it it since it looked absolutely fabulous (yea, I also bring stray kittens home - I am a softie). Also I had a plan. Good plan? Nah... not so much. Fun plan? Oh yeah!! I trailed the wreck to my favorite Indy shop (who also raced P-cars successfully for many years), sat down and had a long talk. Loooooong.....
anyways to make a long story slightly shorter- over the winter we built a 4 liter (LNE nickies) engine with Schrick cams, x51 intakes, 82mm throttle, some sort of fancy cold air intake (evolution??), cargraphics full system and race cats. Lightweight flywheel and a sturdier clutch. Of course balanced the engine good and proper. Also fixed the IMS to a more durable solution and an FVD sump. Think that's it.
Got the car back in June from the workshop and been on 2 track days and been driving it 3000 miles since...
car is running on Michelin cup 2 and Standard brakes with PFC 011 pads.
how does it run you ask? Well how do you think it's running?? It's a marvel, it's a dream. Runs mostly smooth and nice until 4000 rpm when all hell brakes loose. We get full torque at 4K and full power at 6.5 k. We put the rev limiter at 8k (pulled nicely up to 9k but no more power). There's actually no point in revving more than 7 or 7.5.
I'm in love...
Peter
Awesome story, nice looking 4.0L beast
What were your main resources for the build? Curious if you designed it or if your builder took the lead on research.
Brilliant first post - keep them coming!
Love it that you've resisted modding the wheels and aero - your car looks identical to my factory standard Basalt Black Metallic C2 manual, except for the ride height (tempted, I must say...).
A real sleeper!
The performance must be intoxicating, and exploit the brilliant chassis and suspension setup perfectly.
Well, guess I'm not really the Volvo type. I got 2 Alfas and 2 P-cars and the wife is driving Saab. Talking about her, I don't really want to go into costs specifically. Let's just say it was expensive but good value for money- for me...
As of other numbers I can divulge I got 350 hp on the wheels from 6k to 7.5k and 400 nm from 4000 and upwards (don't know the conversion to feet lbs or whatever). What that means on the crank is up for your to ponder, but for me it means a bit north of 400hp. YMMV
On that note I can tell you a little prank I played on an advanced driving training where I am an instructor. There where two guys one with a 996 TT and one with a 991.2S. They came to me after the more advanced part where we do racing simulations and ask how it comes they do not gain any on the straight. Well, I said, trying to keep my face straight, you know it is absolutely pivotal that you nail the exit if you want to have a decent end speed. The guys looked so humbled I actually admitted my car was a bit tuned (I told you I was a softie). Exhaust. Maybe som mapping. And stuff...
cheers
sorry, don't think I have any pics of that rebuild. Got lots of pics from an Alfa twin spark I built in my own garage simultaneously, but I guess ppl aren't interested in that here
Hi all
i did some work on the car last week (first vacation week out of five this summer - isn't holiday great!!). Spaced out the wheels a bit and put a bucket seat in. Time for a track day on Tuesday! Some pics below.
cheers

interestingly enough the car feels much more stable on the road and less "jittery" in the front. Could be due to that the tires track better when wider in the front. Feels a bit sluggish in the turn-in, though. We'll see how it acts on the track on Tuesday
Sweet ride! Guess it was M-tech doing the build?
Had 2 996 earlier and would have been nice to up the power!
Please drop by PCS autocross (slalom) at Lunda east of Uppsala! Would be nice to see and hear it!
Oh, and no 996 modified or not have set a better time than my 944 S2 cab...And there are usually many 996 there. Up for the challenge? ;-)

hi there!
actually Levin Racing built the engine.
Possibly the 12th August event I could join, but why don't you join on Mantorp Tuesday? It is a Drivers Club event and normally a number of great drivers with great cars.
I ran a 968 for a number of years and I can understand you are very quick in the slalom. Never tried it myself though.
cheers
So the summer is over and it is fall over here in Uppsala, Sweden. I am still driving my 996 but worn out cup 2:s are probably not ideal for my winter commute so it is only a matter of days before garaging for this year. Time to do some reflection.
I managed 5 track days with the car. Everything worked perfectly mechanically. From a driving POV I am not really happy with the handling (motor is a dream!!). When really pressureing the car it is a bit vague when on the limit. I think it suffers from that I can only set -1.8 camber max in the front. Tires wear on the outside shoulder a bit too much. Dont get me wrong - I can still push some quick laptimes, but its not really consistent. Generally I drive it on par with our full race E36 M3 - Porsche faster on the high speed tracks and BMW on the twistier (Beemer is 100 hp down) Also I find the suspension a bit saggy on the limit. For next year I need to sort out the camber and get some real r-tires instead of the cup 2:s which is a bit too much of a compromise. Unfortunately more grip will obviously stress the suspension more so we will see how it goes. All in all a good track day car but needs some tweaking to become great! I guess thats a good thing - what ever would I do this winter if the car was finished.
cheers
Way late to the party, i really enjoyed reading this thread. Great first post, story and resulting track monster -- also glad to see others w/ a similar reaction/enthusiasm to your first post. And I love the anecdote from the track day, i can just picture that scenario and how loudly you must have been laughing inside.
You've done the big stuff, swapping out a few suspension bits and dialing in sounds like a good winter project to me -- please keep us all posted!
