Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

23 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey guys. I am new to this forum so If this is in the wrong spot please let me know or you can move it I just bought some turbo twist wheels that have a curb rash for a good deal and I was wondering if anyone has seen or know about someone posting a DIY for fixing up these wheels with curb rash?? I was searching but couldnt find any so all the help will be appreciated Here are the pictures of the wheels that has the curb and I also posted a thread I found for VW oweners on how to fix Longbeach wheels. Does anyone know the name of the color of these wheels or a place I can find the stuff to fix these. Thanks alot. http://www.passatworld.com/forums/sh....php?p=2183943 Check this post ^ out. what do you all think?

POST 2Original post

There was a great article in the April issue of Excellence that describes the entire process, titled "The $23.00 Wheel Deal."

I tried that procedure once, with a BMW wheel. It turned out okay when done, but you really have to paint the whole wheel for it to look good. Then, after some time, the clearcoat turned yellow, I don't know if it was from heat, or the sun. And the paint was not tough enough to handle rock chips, lots of them! Nope, I wouldn't recommend that. My wheel ended up in the shop for powder-coating.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

have any of you guys heard about Wurth.com. I was talking to a guy that fixes wheels that have curb rashes on them and he said that generally all german wheels have the same color (that silver) and Wurth.com sells the paint so I can do it. He told me basically i can buy a putty they sell in the auto stores and sand it and then paint it and clear coat it myself. let me know what you'll think.. and thanks for all the advise. Edgar

Do you know where i can find this article??

POST 7Original post

here you go. My friend authored this article and actually has the porsche wheel instead of the Audi. http://www.audiworld.com/tech/ext43.shtml

POST 8Original post

I had some rash on my twist's. I decided to have them sandblasted and powder coated. The rash is gone. The powder coat actually filled areas in question. It will not fill a deep gash though. Any local place could do it. My guy charged $90/wheel for a gun metal grey and clear coat..

POST 9Original post

I plan to refinish my wheels this summer. In addition to the links already posted, here are a few more. http://euroautoforums.com/forums/ind...showtopic=1159 http://sportbikeguy.com/garage/floor/painting.html

is this the one the guy said about the 23 dollar wheel deal that apperead in the magazine for porsche about fixing a twist??

POST 12Original post

That's what I used, Wurth. I was looking all over for the invoice but coudn't find it. Can't remember the guy's name whom I spoke with at that place. He was a nice guy, we had a lot of back and forth discussion over the phone. First they sent me the wrong paint, which I USED! Then I had to redo. He rushed the paint to me, and later gave me a $50 voucher to shop online. Too bad it didn't work out. I'd strongly advise you to have it professionally done. OR, don't take my word for it, try it and see for yourself....

Has this happened to anyone else too?? just curious why the clearcoat turned yellow What kind of clear coat did you use?

POST 14Original post

I am a wheel nut - so I would never do it myself when it comes to re-finishing. It's worth it to send the wheel to a pro, so it's done right, I think.

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

where can i get the magazine excellence so I can see the article "the 23 dollar deal" ?

POST 16Original post

Quotes source post: 6386063

Any chain bookstore should have the April 2009 issue in stock. You can also order back issues direct from Excellence here .

POST 17Original post

I had a 6" smile on one of my front wheels (from a previous owner). I found these guys on the internet and the local guy did a great job of fixing and repainting (he also does all the wheel repair for the local dealer). Charged $125 (Canadian). I'll be back to him with two wheels from my wifes Benz that my son has damaged during his adventures in parallel parking. They have locations all over the place. http://www.awrswheelrepair.com/

POST 18Original post

Check with the shop where you buy your tires. They should have a good lead on a local wheel refinishing shop.

POST 19Original post

You can order old issues of Excellence from their website. I did refinish my twists this weekend for about $20.00 and 6 hours. They are now "resting" for the week or so before I use them. Excellent article...very easy to do. http://www.excellence-mag.com

POST 20Original post

I used the same product the owner of that online store recommends for Porches, and all German wheels, WURTH. BTW, it cost me only $75 to powdercoat one wheel, professional finish, durable, and they will fix any curb rash or damage first.

POST 21 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post
