Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

After a lot of research, I've concluded that the often repeated mantra that XAA is the only factory aerokit for the 996 Mk1 is most likely Wrong. There were in fact two factory Aerokits for the 996 Mk1. XAA - Aerokit Cup (this is what everybody calls the 996 aero) XAE - "Carrera" Aerokit (much rarer in the US, a little more common in the UK) For 996, there was also XAF - Turbo Aerokit and XAH - Carrera 4S Aerokit. So in total, Four 996 Factory Aerokits. In the "Essential Porsche 996 Companion", the authors list XAE as fixed rear spoiler and hood. This is simply wrong. The carrera static rear spoiler is XAG and not XAE. Why would Porsche create two factory 996 Mk1 Aerokits (Cup & Carrera), but only one code - XAA ?? The answer is they wouldn't. That's not how Porsche works. Proof? So far I could only find two and I'm posting it here. I think I'm going to pay the $100 for the Certificate of Authenticity for my car for the definitive proof. This blog... http://vidar3.tripod.com/911styling.htm And this used car dealer sticker...

POST 2Original post

Interesting find. I've never seen a C4S with factory Aero? I would assume it means just the spoiler since the C4S comes with aero. If you have pics please share. I'm in the US.

POST 3Original post

Don't know the background about your car nor the reason for your "quest." Are you looking to pay the $100 for the CoA to prove that you have an XAE? What does your frunk sticker say? NTL, best of luck and Happy New Year.

POST 4Original post

I believe the Carrera Aerokit was only available in 2001. I tried to buy a low mile Guards Red one about a year ago but it was snatched up before I could get my hands on her.

POST 5Original post

For those with short term memory, he's posting it because of this: https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...ld-i-sell.html He was slammed severely for daring to disagree with some of the members here. Been there, done that. To the OP, good find and good luck convincing some here that you know anything.

C4S Aero kit is same as Turbo Aero Kit

POST 7Original post

I'm not buying it, but I did stay in a holiday inn last week

Maybe KK, but you do have a way of being constantly abrasive. Not really sure why?

POST 9Original post

Well Jim looks like I owe you an apology. The link came from Total911 magazine. http://www.total911.com/996-carrera-vs-997-gt3/

POST 10Original post

Damnit Jim, I'm a doctor not an automobile detective/historian !

POST 11Original post

C4S aero kit are rare enough that I've never seen one in the wild.

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 12885948

I accept your apology Pete. I just ran the VIN decoder and my car does indeed have those Turkish factory worker DNA remnants in the AeroKit. I ordered my COA anyway since this is a rare factory AeroKit option.

POST 13Original post

so what option code is in your frunk sticker? ...XAA, XAE, XAF, XAH???

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 12920402

XAE - Aerokit Carrera What made it confusing was the "Essential Porsche 996 Companion" was wrong about that option. They called it just the spoiler when it was a full AeroKit. Glad I didn't pay $85 for that book and just found the error in their free sample.

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Not to beat a dead horse, but received my definitive proof today from Porsche. XAE = AeroKit 'Carrera'. And I should have the double row IMS.

POST 16Original post

Quotes source post: 12987900

What makes you think that? The switch occurred during the 00 model year (as I was recently corrected). Your's was also built at the very end of the 01 model year so I'd say you have a better chance on having a single than a dual. Unfortunately there is only one way to know for sure though

Well that's just another dead horse, and I've already beat one today and one's enough.

POST 19Original post

On a '00 996, if there's no aerokit option under the front hood, does that mean it was definitely added aftermarket?

POST 20Original post

Quotes source post: 13705606

Correct. I've heard of instances where supposedly a car came factory-equipped with an item not reflected on the hood sticker but still reflected in the COA. I guess if you wanted to be 100% sure you could pay for a COA.

POST 21Original post

Quotes source post: 13705695

Thanks! I guess I'm a little surprised as this car seems to have the correct SportDesigns as well. I know there are quite a few people here who have added the Aerokit after purchase, but it's the first I've seen with the wheels as well. (I don't imagine they were cheap..!)

POST 22Original post

Quotes source post: 13705695

That would be where it was a dealer installed option rather than a factory option.

POST 23Original post

Quotes source post: 13705708

The wheels were not part of the Aero package and yes they were (and still are!) expensive.

POST 24Original post

Quotes source post: 13705771

A dealer-installed item would show up on a COA?

POST 25Original post

Quotes source post: 13706006

A dealer installed option should, but if it was added separate from the order it shouldn't. No idea why some cases were done at the factory and others done by the dealer.

POST 26Original post

Quotes source post: 13705774

No kidding, I didn't know that. Thanks!

POST 27Original post

I just purchased this 2005 996 C4S with the XAH Aerokit (full specs and more pics: https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...l#post13771923 )
