The good side is that you get to either have your bumper cover (and all it's imperfections) redone, or replaced with something you like better.

I came down from Vancouver Island last year for a Drivers Skills event in Bremerton and had a brief conversation with a woman who had a white GT3 (extremely jealous of her car) that she stated was mostly used for track events and autocross.

I volunteered out at Bremerton twice now, Once was late last year and it was so bloody hot I almost died from running around since I got stuck on the autocross course alone (no other people to cover) Then this last weekend we raining sideways all day and I nearly froze from being wet in 39 degree temps and soaking wet...

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Total BS... came home late last night in the dark from a day at the track.. I volunteered to help out for the "Drivers Skills Day" - It rained sideways most of the day... in the morning I ran around and set cones up after the drivers ran them down, and in the afternoon I was course director on the advance slalom directing the cars....
what do I get, well free time on the large autocross in the "open session" (and free lunch)
so after a great day and feeling all good about myself, I pulled the car out this morning and see that the front has been hit....It looked like it might buff out so I took a few minutes and tried to see how bad it is.... **** the thing is scratched deep and was pushed in hard enough to make small cracks in the paint surface....
I am a little bent about it.. The ONLY place I was, was there AND I know who had the ONLY car that parked near me (and the paint also matches) was an instructor.
My front clip is pretty rough from rock chips and the lower area where I dinged it on a curb (big paint spot missing...see pic)
Thoughts? (also I dont know how to directly contact this instructor, I am sure I could figure it out if I needed to)
I have to admit, I am not too upset... but I would like to ask her to see if she has a "matching mark" on her GT3
even if she owned up to it, what would I say... I mean look at my bumper cover !! It needs re-done even before this happened.
Since this is my "training Porsche" I guess I will keep driving it till it looks too bad to deal with... then just get it repainted (along with the GT2 yellow hood
)
A bumper cover respray is worth about $500. I would talk to the guy and see if he comes clean. Worst case, maybe you split the cost of getting the cover repainted. You don't need a new cover.
Really sucks! If you know who hit you, contact him and ask if he didn't accidentally scrape your car on his was out after a long and tiring day instructing. You never know, he may man-up to it.
FWIW: I got hit twice this winter. First time some d!ck left a dime size ding in my passenger door while it was park at the HQ of a car manufacturer (my clients...and many people know my car there); no note. 2nd time: a week ago at Costco, i parked a million miles from any cars at the very end of the lot and came out to find that someone had punted a shopping cart into my back bumper and left 2 small indents and a couple of cracks in the clearcoat...you guessed it; no note either.
sometimes.... it doesnt pay to get out of bed. Especially in horizontal rain.
Though it doesnt look that bad... sucks that somebody didnt man/woman up.
... maybe you once you tell them, they will be cool (fingers crossed).
But I suppose its better mentally to not prepare for much cooperation ($$). If you get it, then its a bonus.
Good luck. Sucks man.
If the weather was as bad as described, the miscreant probably does not even know he caused a problem. The scuff is smooth swipe damage. Very easy to fix, but very hard to feel during the actual contact.
I agree...everyone was wet and tired - windows were foggy - IF she is the one that did it, I really doubt she knows - I will try and make contact thru the event coordinador
(with fingers crossed naturally)
Yeah, I noticed. I was just glad that you didn't need a new one... at $2K each that would not have made for a good day.
Sorry to hear that you got a whack and run incident.
I agree with Orient, she probably didn't even know she scuffed ya and as you said, it was time to fix it anway, glad to see you've got all this in perspective.
Still, it'd be nice if she fessed up..
That sucks, especially if you know who did it. Ask her about it and give her a chance to fess up.
About 10 years ago I parked my car at the airport. When I came out there was this 740IL parked at an angle next to me with his paint all down the side of my car with a huge crease and my paint all over his front bumper. I called the airport security and they took pictures and my statement. A week or so later I called the airport and they said Mr 740 denied it all and since there were no witnesses I was SOL. About six months later I saw the SOB driving on my way to work so I followed him to his office garage, waited for him to go inside and keyed his car. What goes around comes around, that's my perspective.
Ed - really sucks. Sorry that had to happen. The good side is that you get to either have your bumper cover (and all it's imperfections) redone, or replaced with something you like better. Good luck!
Thanks guys, I sent her an email (very nice and NOT accusing...) asking if by chance she had a new black mark on her car (now if my email isn't blocked by some stupid spam filter - I thought a subject line of "ViAgRa FoR $4.98/dOSe" was smart to get right on past it though.....)
HAHAHAHA j/k
Don't be surprised if she says "Good thing you contacted me about that new paint streak on my car." "You could have fessed up when you did it." Where do I send the bill for my repaint + subsequent devaluation to my GT3?
That paint mark looks to me like you may have hit something without realizing it. It's a bit too low to be done by another car. Just pointing out an observation. I'd touch it up if that were my car.
Cheers, Ed, it'll be all right.
If nothing else, on the next autocross you can just go ballistic on some cones.
I went to Home Depot today and I was feeling paranoid as a pick-up drove out from the spot next to me.... had to immediately check that side for dings.
the LOW paint removal was my doing on a curb almost a year ago.. the "new" mark is right in the front right below the headlight and had white paint on it (the pic is after I tried to rub it out)
I got a reply from the person, she says her car shows no sign of any marks at all...and asked to help "do what's right" in the event she had inadvertantly caused some damage....thats good an bad... good that I feel better knowing someone I respect stood up and said OK lets do whats right,... bad is I dont think she was involved and now its just me and the issue (again this is good too when you consider some of the other ideas that were presented)
SOOOOO - big ole sign of disapointment and relief - it is what it is
hahahahah - yelling inside my car as I run them down.... "Take that you damn cone!!"
I find I do this quite often myself...
Thanks for the smile, that was funny!
I came down from Vancouver Island last year for a Drivers Skills event in Bremerton and had a brief conversation with a woman who had a white GT3 (extremely jealous of her car) that she stated was mostly used for track events and autocross. She seemed quite straightforward in her conversations with me. I kind of had the feeling that she would be responsible enough to "own up" if she had caused the damage.
At the event I attended last year parking and entering the track was fairly straight forward. Cars were parked with lots of room to spare. It would be pretty hard to damage another car while moving a car from the parking area into position on the tarmac, but certainly posisible.
Hope all ends up well.
Hey, what month... I think I talked to you at that event, I remember talking to someone who came down from there.
Yes the "normal parking" is up along the main raod by the clubhouse... I however was parked out along side of the slalom start line up and the cars where one in front of the other...just to clear up how I thought it could happen.
Yes, that is the same person, there is only one and she is amazing. Like I said I respect her not just for driving but have seen her around at many events. Very straightforward and she did offer to "make it right" but with no evidence on her car, its sort of hard to point the finger and accuse anyone too.... I surely dont want to have this end up getting back to her as "ther is a guy on rennlist that says you ......." you know. She isnt the one.
Yeah, pretty hard to be that upset about the new mark, when the old ones are so much worse. As long as the polyurethane isn't damaged, a good repaint should fix that right up. Stuff like this is where I think it will be worth getting a clear bra installed over my new bumper cover.
I believe it was July when I was there. After seeing your description of where you parked I could easily see the car being damaged if one were not careful.
I had several conversations with the owner of a black 996 and I am assuming it was you. My sister actually got video of both of us driving and if you are the same person, we said we would send you the video in an email. Un fortunately my wife somehow deleted the entire recording before we even left the track.
If I come down for another Drivers Skills program I won't mention the incident to the woman involved. I might ask to drive her car though.
I'm not sure if I can get down for the DS days. I would like to try a DE but I may have conflicts there as well. If you get a chance PM me with your email and I'll stay in touch. My sister lives in Bremerton so maybe we could get together for a drive, chat, whatever. Glad your car wasn't hurt badly!
naturally .... I know, but thanks for reminding me !!

Not sure if I will do that again, but maybe !! (if you come I will volunteer for sure, Its really quite fun (weather dependant)
