I do something similar but just use a spray hose at home and hook it to hot water instead of a cold outside faucet.

What do most people do to clean the engine? Scares me to get too up in there with cleaner and the hose. Its also pretty tight to bet in there by hand. Its not awful dirty, but bugs me none the less This guy may have the solution! You Tube

Porsche specifically mentions protecting the alternator in the Owners Manual but, other than that, this "dangerous" method should work. I do something similar but just use a spray hose at home and hook it to hot water instead of a cold outside faucet.

its hard to get the top. you have to cover the alt with plastic, you can wash around with engine cleaner, simple green etc. use a parts cleaning brush and maybe light scotchbrite pads. Just keep blowing as you go with air hose so it doesnt flood into anything.
