Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Long story short, these were Fabspeed tips which were very difficult to get adjusted when I originally did the exhaust.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I finally got some time for a little garage therapy and based on feedback from my RL brothers, I secured a set of Wevo sem-solid engine mounts. The replacement process was relatively painless (other than that they didn't appear to fit into square recess) until I found the exhaust tips (passenger side) were up significantly and touching the bumper cover. Long story short, these were Fabspeed tips which were very difficult to get adjusted when I originally did the exhaust. After a couple hours of trying to make them work, I reverted to the stock tips (in about 15 minutes, good grief). Everything appears to be working as expected - I even seem to have gotten rid of a very slight exhaust rattle which I attributed to the heat shield. Initial impressions are good. The only noise or vibration that I detect inside the cabin is during downshifts - acceleration and idle are smooth. The notchy shifting that I've noted appears to mostly be gone. I think I'll try a FF tranny insert in a last gasp to fully resolve that.

POST 2Original post

Careful with those exhaust tips. I did not properly clamp one of mine when I moved them to a set of Fisters - and subsequently melted a bit of my rear bumper cover. You may want to check them again after driving for a few days - had I done this, I would have one less item on my "things to do to the 996 someday" list.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I sort of hit that mistake when I put the FS tips on originally. They were clamped tight, but apparently too close to the bumper cover. I didn't notice it right away, but I have singed that inside part of the cover. If you look at my avatar, the driver side is where I got too close which is interesting because in the pic it's the passenger side that looks closer.

Thanks for pointing that out. I purchased a set of beautiful fabspeed exhaust tips .. however, they are not double insulated like the factory ones and ended up melting the bumper cover. fabspeed looks great but!!!!!

Yep, super annoying - especially on white cars!
