Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I ran like this for a while but I want my car oem+ and for everything to work.
Leading evidence: 'Run like this' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Clean install' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Bought the VAG spline adapter and a spare clockspring to test/modify.

Since I converted my car from a tip to manual, the clock spring for a tip has three more wires that I've repurposed and will use for head unit control buttons (the controls came on my new steering wheel but I've removed for now).

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I managed to fit the wheel from my Panamera GTS into the C4S. Matches the color scheme perfectly lol.
Bought the VAG spline adapter and a spare clockspring to test/modify.
I have not tackled the wiring yet but I've figured out what to do. I need to put this wheel back in my Panamera (it's my daily), then suss out which steering wheel I want for the 996 (991 manual or Macan GTS). I'll modify that steering wheel harness for the airbag connection and post a how-to. This particular wheel/harness needs to stay intact!
Not a fan of the gap at the top of the column but its not noticeable when driving. Id like to figure something out or maybe ask a favour of someone with a 3D printer.
I had that same steering wheel on mine back in 2012 when they first came out....I didn't like that gap to the steering column, so I sold the steering wheel...I wish I had kept it now because I would have to pay much more for the same steering wheel nowadays ..lol

Update-ish.....still tinkering with this project.
You can break the tabs off the old 996 clock spring and reuse it but then you lose the turn signal self cancelling function. I ran like this for a while but I want my car oem+ and for everything to work. So I n
ow have a 3D printed clock spring with a larger opening and the tab to self cancel the turn signals. Splendid.
I covered the clock spring in mole skin so it will turn smoothly and quietly. Zero issues. Need to get the car inspected this month but have been so busy, I took the easy way out on the airbag for now with the resistor..

The horn wiring is simple as I reused the 996 horn wires/connectors through the clock spring. I did add an extension to one of the wires though.
I do want to change the steering column trim one day; it now exposes part of the clock spring if you look directly at it from above. Nobody has ever noticed it or said anything to me but I know it's there. That will need to be a 3D printed part. One day,,,,
No errors, no lights, and best of all the steering wheel is no closer to you like with those 4" adapters.
Also performed the annual oil change. Was still clean, as was the filter. As expected.
VAG spline adapter
3 extra wires in the tiptronic clock spring have been heat shrink wrapped together and will be repurposed to go with the steering wheel radio controls. I removed the controls for now. Resistor was put in place to cancel the airbag light (temporarily).
Everything connected properly and tucked out of the way under the horn ring. The horn functions as intended.
Photo of the 3d printed clockspring, one with moleskin on it to keep it smooth and quiet when turning.
Bottom of the original clock spring cover in the middle of test fitting. This opening was why I lost the self cancelling tab and prompted the printing of a new clock spring cover. Jut noticed that I've got the manual clock spring pin the photo (3 less wires that the tiptronic).
Top "half" of the clock spring during test fitting.
I reused the original nut and washer but did buy a second M20 washer from my local parts store to take out a little wiggle. The M18 washer would be ideal but they didn't have one.
Hopefully I'll be able to do the airbag wiring soon.

Hello, I bought the steering wheel and it is burning my heart having it laying around at home. Sadly I dont know anyone who could help me doing this,so I am planning on doing this on my own.
I have a couple of questions, if you could give me some pointers it would be excellent. Once I take the original steering wheel out, should I cut the original clockspring or do I have necesairly to print a new one? I didnt understand that part.
The horn needs an extension and the airbag needs a resistor to avoid the airbag light. a resistor of
2 ohms would work? I am a total noob but willing to learn.
Thanks in advance.
