Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Ed, is it better to pay too much for a part that you can use or a pay a little for parts that you can't use on your car?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My 1999 996 came to me (third owner) with Antera wheels. Two of the 4 valve caps were missing and the tool needed to remove the cap was broken. After calling around, I ordered a valve kit ($25) and 3 extra caps ($5 each) from "CEC" Claus Ettenberger of Gardena, CA. The parts total was $40 - ridiculous for what they are. What really disappointed me was the $20 freight charge for a package weighing less than a half-pound. I talked to them about the charge after getting the billing statement in the mail, but they would not budge. Claimed it was what UPS Ground charges, which I believe is not true as I have had a UPS account. To add insult to the financial injury, the parts were ordered on the 12th, the letter arrived today, March 16th, and UPS is yet to show up. I will be forever reluctant to order again from CEC and wondered if other have had the same poor experience?

POST 2Original post

Wait......$60......for valve stem caps. Do they come with a happy ending? Decent ones are maybe $3 at the local a/p store; nice Porsche ones are, what, $15? Refuse to accept the shipment; return to sender; challenge with CC - or - be more vigilant about costs next time.

POST 3Original post

awe....that was stupid. Think I would have said "no thanks" and then shopped around. Just because someone has the stuff and you can buy them there, doesnt mean you have to.... That said I paid several times at my STEALER for parts I know I could have got cheaper.... then again, I didnt have to wait or pay for shipping so even that is smarter than what you did.... sorry to say it,.... but it is

POST 4Original post

Ed, is it better to pay too much for a part that you can use or a pay a little for parts that you can't use on your car? By now you should know better than to set yourself up like that! That was too easy!

POST 5Original post

hahahahahahaa someone has to make things easy around here, its good you jumped me for that one! FREE SHIPPING - Parts you cannot ever use .... Biggest question I have for the OP is.... does it run yet? (this car had an engine issue yast year and was towed home for repairs that had to be postponed due to the economy being so rough on some of the good folks on here)
