Suspected cause

The factory clear coat rarely peels, so it is probably a failing re-spray, which makes sense if the car has had major repairs.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm on the hunt for a 996 cab. Price matters. Considering picking up this car for 13k but the paint clear coat is coming off, the doors have been so burned up by the sun that they are actually coming apart and the interior looks like crap. Switches are bad, seat motor in passenger doesn't work etc. And the top looks bad. https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/invent...ting=211556477 Thinking about tossing a pair of race seats into the car. I like the year. That's about it. What are your thoughts?

POST 2Original post

The link takes me to a black on tan 2002 for $11,995. In the description is states "frame damage". The factory clear coat rarely peels, so it is probably a failing re-spray, which makes sense if the car has had major repairs. I would run away from this one.

POST 3Original post

Spend a little more and get one in better condition.

POST 4Original post

This car is a ****box, and I'm pretty liberal about condition. First, accident with frame damage is a real mood killer. Secondly, paintwork is expensive...unless you really don't care. Interior is not a big deal, as nice used door panels are cheap and the rest can likely be easily rectified. New top is not cheap. Oil fill tube looks temp repaired. Now I'm not one of these guys who says that if the car has some blemish, the owner didn't care about anything else, but in this case, you really gotta wonder. Accident car in this sort of condition should sell for like $2k over roller price, and thats if the motor and tranny are good (don't take the seller's word for it). Unless you are super handy and want a track car (not with a cab...), this is a hard pass.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

And this is why I posted it right here. Thanks guys. I really like the price and that it is a 2002 with the newer motor and such. The guy said the title was clean / clear. But I think I agree. This is more of a 7k car. I'm in Kentucky. Help me find a smoking deal on a cab. I currently own an 06 CTT-S and LOVE it.
