Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

The bulk of the drive is divided highway and the 911 ran smooth and consistent with more than enough power and speed available for overtaking.
Leading evidence: 'Run smooth and consistent' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'early boxsters took the brunt end of' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Run smooth and consistent' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suspected cause
Youd think that since this was the first model of its kind that there would be issues with these early cars, but I suspect the early Boxsters took the brunt end of that deal.

Suggestion
911s have always been rough-and-ready cars, they are designed and built to be used, and used hard if needed, and used for a long time.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I just returned from a 1000 mile trip from Omaha to south central Missouri where a large group of us float the north fork of the White river. Ive been making this trip annually for the past 12 years but this was my first time in the 911. The previous trips have all been in my F250 crew cab and Ive always wanted to have the 911 for the awesome roads east of Springfield.
This year, a buddy had a new truck and wanted to take on the hauler duty so I gladly agreed. Freed from the responsibilities of hauling a few friends and their gear, I made plans to take the 911, (Black 1999 C2 Cabriolet)... fresh oil and filters was all I needed since I had replaced the brakes, rotors, brake fluid, AOS, coolant expansion tank, and coolant during the spring.
I had an awesome experience. Not a single issue with the car. It ran great and did everything I wanted it to with more to spare. The bulk of the drive is divided highway and the 911 ran smooth and consistent with more than enough power and speed available for overtaking.
I really enjoyed Missouri highway 14 from Ozark to the highway 181 turn off to Dora. The roads in the Dora, Caulfield, and Dawt area are some of the most fun Ive had driving in the Midwest.
Along the way, I noticed only 2 other 911s out and about. The first one was on southbound I29 around the Iowa/Missouri border. It was a beautiful white 993 or 964, I cant be sure as I only saw it briefly. The other was a 996 Mk. 1 in a color that Apple would call rose gold. The driver gave me a short honk as they rolled by me on westbound I44 in Springfield. There may have been others that I didnt notice due to concentration on traffic etc., but it does remind me just how rare our cars are and what a privilege it is to have and drive one.
This was the best trip Ive ever had and the 911 had a lot to do with it. Many thanks to the people at The Hitching Post in Caulfield, Roys Service in Dora, and Pettits Canoe Rental for their hospitality.
Im already planning next years route to try out some more of the twisties in that area. In summary, the 911 was made to be driven so get out there and drive em!
Not a single issue!? How did you notice all of the other 911s from behind the tow truck? Oh! You were on a flatbed! The view must have been astonishing.
Seriously, glad you enjoyed your trip!
We have the same car (Black 1999 C2 Cabriolet). Its been my daily driver for 18 months now around Chicagoland. Youd think that since this was the first model of its kind that there would be issues with these early cars, but I suspect the early Boxsters took the brunt end of that deal. These early cars are pretty dang reliable.
I remember my first camping road trip in my 88 Targa. These cars are brilliant for these kind of trips. Plenty of room as long as its 2 adults and not 4
As requested, here is a quick pic of the camp site. Methinks the 911 looks a bit out of place. Also, I had a bit of fun with a buddys M4 while he was sleeping
Not at all, it looks like a perfect fit. 911s have always been rough-and-ready cars, they are designed and built to be used, and used hard if needed, and used for a long time.
I'll bet that after a night's sleep on the hard ground in a tent, climbing into the car was like climbing into a luxury automobile! Looks like you had fun. And good for you to take your car camping.
