Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Use on the cup cars' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Test documentation' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

"10-12hp gain" "10-12tq gain" I'm not saying thats inaccurate, I just wonder if that is backed up with proper dyno test documentation?
Test showed gains of 11hp and 11lb-ft at the wheels

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Does anyone know of a cold air intake system that actually draws in from the cold air stream?
My car has an OEM early style wing with a deck lid that has limited ducting vents to the engine. Outside/cold air is really only available from the OEM source (from the boot cover).
All of the intakes that I have looked at so far move the filter away from the OEM cool air source and into the engine bay. Some draw air off the top of the muffler, some from behind the engine. Most have a partial baffel of some sort; but none so far have sealed the "cold air intake" from the hot engine/exhaust.
Is there a better solution?

I've always read OEM set-up is the best. In addition I don't have to oil the filter element!
Here is a chart we did wayyyy back in the day. 996 C4S, black line is stock, blue lines are with just the V-Flow:

. This particular test showed gains of 11hp and 11lb-ft at the wheels.
Charts are gone (thanks Photobucket), this picked up 5-7whp and 5-7wtq on a hot day with no air flow going to the decklid:

Solid proven power gains. It also sounds excellent--better than a set of mufflers and it won't wake the neighbors or drone on the freeway:
Also note we use a dry media filter. It does NOT use filter oil and filters dirt quite a bit better than those types of filters.
Yes, by default it comes with a reducer to the stock throttle body, but we have an adapter that makes it a straight fit to the 82mm throttle body. Specify when you order, or we can sell just the coupler for $10+shipping if you already own an intake.

"2 x 5000 CFM “spot” cooling fans directed at the intercoolers with reverse flow" Copied from link one above.
I didn't even know my C4S had intercoolers????? Guess you guys taught me something today!
I ran the last week some tests measuring the intake temperature in different situations.
I can conclude with a reasonable certainty that the best and cheapest CAI is to open the rear spoiler manually.
With the spoiler open and driving the intake air temperature drops within a range of plus 5-7degC with respect to the ambient air temperature. When manually operatief the rear spoiler it also stays up when sloping down and standstill. Intake temperature remains fairly stable under these circumstances. Only kreeping up very slowly over time. With the spoiler closed the intake air temperature climbs up to ambient temperature +30degC and more.
I doubt any of the CAI intakes reaches any temperature benefit over OEM in closed spoiler state. As with only 5degC difference with the open spoiler there is a negligent room for improvement.
So the so called Cold Air benefit is not there for the 911. The only difference left would be an improved and better air intake volume over stock.
