Yeah I can get a muffler delete or have sport seats installed after but I'd like to leave it all factory.

I hear the less they're used the more prone they are to ims failure.

If you are looking at cars in Ontario, I'd get the cylinder walls scoped and checked for scoring.

I think that is my favorite option and I hardly use my radio and always drive with the windows open, even when it is cold, just to hear the engine's song.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey guys,
Been browsing around the forum for a while educating myself on 996's. I'm looking at getting a c4s soon. Wondering what you guys think about certain options. I test drive one with PSE and standard seats. Ideally I'd like to get one with sport seats and pse. Which would you suggest is a better option to have? Hard to find one with both.
Yeah I can get a muffler delete or have sport seats installed after but I'd like to leave it all factory.
Let me know what guys think from personal experience.
Cheers!

The rest is why you work
So you can spend your hard earned $ maintaining, modifying, making it your own
Exhaust, intake, suspension, tires, etc.
If you buy a car with a black interior, then it may not be too hard to find a set of sport seats for sale. If you buy another color, it may be more difficult.
Yeah I'm definitely looking at getting one in good shape mechanically. I have a great Porsche mechanic in the city so I'm not worried about that. So far what I found there are 5 or 6 c4s coupes for sale in all of Ontario Canada that look good to me.
Should I stay away from low km? I hear the less they're used the more prone they are to ims failure.
Does anyone know what sports seats go for?$$ haven't found any for sale.
I personally wouldn't discount a low km car if it checked out. If you are looking at cars in Ontario, I'd get the cylinder walls scoped and checked for scoring. I'd be more worried about that than the IMS. IMS can be fully remedied with the $1725 IMS Solution

Scored Cylinders is a $10-20k adventure you don't want to go on.
I'll make sure to do that. There's one in town with 50,000kms everything is factory with no major service except oil changes. Its really clean and drives great, only thing it doesn't have is sport seats but thats alright.
For those of you who own sports seats and have sat in both, would you say its worth having or are the standard ones fine. After sitting in the standard seats i was surprised at how well they held me in place. But there is always that feeling your're missing an option that you really want.
I don't have a C4 but I have factory sport seats with my C2. My complaint w/ them is you sit very high in them. I am 5'8" and I can barely see the guages under the steering wheel with the seat at the lowest setting. Not sure how the comfort seats compare.
I now have GT3 euro seats in the car.
The 4S comes with most options already included in the package. Extras would be dimming rear view mirror, thicker steering wheel, rear wiper, cosmetic interior upgrades like carbon consoles and trim. I would suggest taking your time, do some research here on 996s, get a PPI and pull the trigger once you find a nice example. Not too complicated. Good luck.
The factory sport seats are neither here nor there: they aren't enough for track driving, and not as nice as the comfort seats for road driving. Don't worry about them. When the time comes that you want more bolstering, you will go aftermarket anyways.
Funny, I'm 6'3 and the sport seats seat me better than the comfort ones. If you have a really broad back though it might be uncomfortable, as the back is rather narrow on them. I'm a skinny dude, so it's perfect for me.
And I've driven multiple times 10+ hours trips, never felt uncomfortable.
I think they would fit taller people better who need to tilt the seat back further due to height and longer arms than I have. Being tilted back further would correct the gauge viewing angle.
With my T-rex arms I do keep the seat a bit more upright which hinders the viewing angle to the gauges for me.
My switch to the GT3 seats was track/harness driven, I would not say the original sport seats were bad enough that I ever wanted to change them, they just could be a bit better. I also had instructors sit in the passenger's seat a couple times and immediately say "does this seat go any lower?" so maybe it's not just me.
I have an '03 C4S with PSE & Sport seats. I'm 6'2 and broad shoulders. I love how the seats hold me in place but they do feel a little tight for my shoulders. The PSE is heavenly! I think that is my favorite option and I hardly use my radio and always drive with the windows open, even when it is cold, just to hear the engine's song.
+1 I have PSE too I would try to get that option, it sounds awesome and having the "quiet" button on the dash is nice for the highway and early AM departures from the neighborhood.
I've got the PSE in mine and agree with statements above - the sound is fantastic with the occasional dragon like growl, and sometimes I forget the radio is off. My carbon intake also adds to the fantastic flat 6 acoustics!
I had the optional Comfort Seats in my 996 C4S, and they were fine. I’m 6’4” and I never had any issues. They were comfortable. I always wanted a set of sport seats, but I never found a good set in the right color. I agree with the comments on PSE - get it if you can. If you can’t, then Fister sport mufflers are a great option at a reasonable price.
I'm not crazy about the turbo, maybe if i drove one i would feel different but i just love the look of the C4S and the sound of the NA engine. The Turbo sound doesn't do anything for me.
I just picked a C4S a few weeks ago after a many months of searching. Beyond searching for a solid car from a trusted owner i was interested in full leather, PSE, PASM and either black, silver or grey with black interior. Pretty specific needs, but found exactly that. The PSE is great, but my buddy has a targa with K&N filter charger and it sounds fantastic at 4k, gonna have to add that to get the full song of the flat six. Full leather is a must and probably appreciate that as much as the exhaust.
At the end of the day, options can be found and added later, the big things I focused was color combo, being a solid car mechanically and being a great driver. Happy hunting!
yeah....I'd go drive one if I were you.
it's the same car with holes on the side. Much more reliable motor than the NA also.
but heh. For $40k CDN you can buy my C4S. 2002, 114000km, PSE, SPORTS SEATS!!! Newly rebuilt engine with a 4.0 shortblock. LNE nickies, LNE IMS, pinned IMS, ARP hardware, LNE billet IMS paddle....Almost every part has been replaced in the last 2 years. New tires, brakes, guibo, engine, heater core exchanger, new sway bar bushings, new maf, new injectors, new o2 sensors, new windshield, new window regulators, new starter, new alternator, y cable done, rad cleaning done, new fluids everywhere.
all you need to do is fix the existing issues
-needs a door latch switch
-new headlight switch
-find and fix the source of a knock going frwd to reverse
-repaint/repair an old repair done on the passenger quarter panel. Maybe $500 of work at a body shop....
