Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi everyone:
Question... I have a 99' C2, with stock headlights, and part numbers on them correspond to the "Porsche E Katalog" that says they are 98's?
They are being replaced, due to an accident, and the dealership is telling my bodyshop that I "have to use" the 98' lights. I thought that 97-01 Boxster and 996 lights were interchangeable (with the exception of the xenon/litronics).
Is there something different about the one year only 98' lights? And the bigger problem is that Porsche is completely out of these lights in the US and Germany, and will not have any until early 2018!
Thanks in advance for your help!
If it's a Porsche dealership they should be able to source the correct part number based on your VIN. Try LA Dismantlers or someone similar to see if they have any.
Check the part numbers, the last two digits denote the supersession if there is one.
Might be a case of the dealership only being able to supply the newest parts available for your VIN.
Is it an insurance claim? Can understand trying to save some money if its a private quote.
Yes, insurance claim. New factory, or new oem. They are covering it, but the rh one is not in stock anywhere in the US, and the factory is waiting on a subcontractor for a part before they can start the next production batch..... early 2018!!!!!
I think the first model year was the one that came with "fried egg" (yellow) headlights, like the Boxster. After that they became clear.
Technically I cannot imagine there is a difference.
Based on how many times I think I spotted a 911 to see that side intake and go, ohhhh boxster, they are identical. Here is the listing off Pelican for further confirmation:

I have interchanged headlights on boxsters and 996's. I have also bought clears on ebay in pretty rough shape and then wetsanded them back to life and then covered with xpel for UV protection. I would definitely do that and its so much cheaper. Clears are the way to go. In addition I even de-amber the clears and put in a silverized turn signal bulb. This way the light headlight is all silver. For me this is how the 996 actually looks better than my 997 or my 991 I had at one time.
