Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

as the title says, the guy who is installing my alarm says i need 2 find out...

POST 2Original post

Yes, it's got a chip. the valet-looking key that doesn't have buttons does not have the chip and will trigger alarm.

POST 4Original post

Are you sure about the valet key? I just had one full size and one valet key matched to my car. The full size (remote buttons) key went through 2 processes: one to mate the remote to the alarm/door lock system; and one to mate the transponder to the car. Each process is described individually in the factory manual. The valet key definitely would NOT work until it went through the mating process (I tried it). After mating .... using the PST2 and vehicle code supplied by PCNA (just as with the larger key), the valet key worked like a champ. My conclusion, confirmed by the Porsche dealer tech, was that it contained a transponder also.

POST 5Original post

The valet key does have a chip or you would not be able to start the car. I replace one and it was coded to the car with the PST2.

POST 6Original post

When I use the valet key to manually open the door, the alarm was triggered. I'll have to check to see ignition can be started w the valet key when I get home

POST 7Original post

Then I'd take it back to the dealer. The valet key has a chip.

POST 8Original post

Whenever I manually unlock the door with ANY key and then open the door, my alarm goes off. I don't think it's limited to just your valet key
