Either it came out of the car or it was cleaned in placed....but I can't believe it was cleaned in place and the other components around it were not cleaned such as the sway bar.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a buddy looking at an 01 coupe, it's not local and he is getting piece mail info. He sent me this picture of the engine that the owner sent him. It sure seems odd to me that the engine is perfectly clean. Either it came out of the car or it was cleaned in placed....but I can't believe it was cleaned in place and the other components around it were not cleaned such as the sway bar. The car has 52K miles. I see it has headers, but can't find a picture of them anywhere on the web that match them. What are the Conspiracy Theorist ideas out there? <img src=http://audipages.com/911/cleanengine.JPG>

POST 3Original post

That exhaust looks stock to me. Don't all 996's have headers like that?

POST 5Original post

Quotes source post: 13203054

Haven't studied them in detail, but the headers look similar to our 01's and I know they are stock. I agree that the motor was out for some reason. Either work or replacement and as clean as it is I'd go with replacement.

POST 6Original post

I would suggest hiring a local private engine investigator to stake out his house, do some background checking and find out the root of this issue. If there has been any correspondence between said "seller" and former member "KK", beware of sub-par workmanship hence a certain decline on the sale.

POST 7Original post

Somehow, I blame Donald Trump. And the Trilateral Commission.

POST 22Original post

You 996'ers are soooooo paranoid. Over in the 997 Forum, your engine is EXPECTED to be spotless... https://rennlist.com/forums/997-foru...-dressing.html

POST 23Original post

Quotes source post: 13204282

Between the mess that failed IMSB and RMS can make, it takes a lot of work to the make the 996 great again.

POST 24Original post

Bernie will force evil, greedy corporations to all use the same bearings in all cars. For fairness. Kasich will point out that not ONE IMS bearing failed in Ohio when he was governor. Trump will insist upon a wall between the IMS bearing and the other mechanisms, to prevent unwanted intrusions. And he'll make Porsche pay for it. Clinton will insist that she can fix this awful IMS mess that, let us point out, occurred during the Bush administrations. After getting a $5 million donation to the Clinton Foundation from Porsche, and nomination of Chelsea to their board: She'll forget all about it. Because, at this point, what difference does it make? Cruz will point out that the Constitution said nothing about IMS bearings, rendering it off limits to government intrusion.

POST 27Original post

What does the owner have to say/offer regarding the state of the engine? Does the engine serial number suggest the engine could be a replacement? BTW a clean engine doesn't have to mean anything other than than someone cleaned the engine. I cleaned my engine in my Boxster one time and didn't bother to clean the sway bar or other hardware not directly attached to the engine. How does the engine sound upon cold start and while idling? How does the engine behave with the car on the road being driven as your friend intends to drive the car?

POST 28Original post

Could be a replacement , could be like mine , and I cleaned the engine when I pulled it out to do the aos . Could be a low mile car from a dry state . Could be the guy owns a steam k'archer

POST 30Original post

I'd suggest calling the seller and asking him/her.

The engine was power washed in place. You can see the pressure washer marks on the suspension parts that didn't clean up so well. .

This - but more likely with a steamer for a while. There are steamer machines that put out a fair amount of pressure, and they can do a soap, then steam, then degreaser, then steam. It's costly but that's my op. Big truck places have them typically.

I think they are stock. They look nothing like the headers in the OP's original post though.
