Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

When you use the emergency release cable does the trunk pop up enough to get your fingers underneath the hood?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

996.2, when I hit the trunk button on the remote or in the car the yellow lever is moving back and forth like it's opening and closing, but the trunk won't actually open. I have to use the emergency cable.
There seems to be a broken cable though? I'm not sure if I need a new part or if there's something I can retrofit, here's a pic:
As you can see, it looks like there's some metal cord snapped or something? Struggling to find diagrams of the part online.
Thanks in advance!
I think what you're seeing as a broken cable is just the stub of the trimmed cable where it exits the end of the cable stop.
I have read in other threads that in addition to the latch, there is a solenoid/release controlled by the alarm system that prevents the hood from opening if the alarm is armed. Since the latch seems to be working but the hood still won't open except via the manual bypass, maybe this is the culprit...unless it doesn't exist and the threads that mentioned it were all lies. If that's the case, I am sorry for perpetuating the myth of the front trunk locking solenoid.
I remember someone mentioning that the hood struts are actually what makes the frunk "\pop open when released. Is there enough pressure there that it lifts up when the latch is disengaged?
When you use the emergency release cable does the trunk pop up enough to get your fingers underneath the hood? If not, the hood latch mechanism has a spring that comes undone. It provides the initial "lift" of the hood from the latch.
my hood release button was working intermittently and then stopped working this weekend. i ordered a new accuater (part # 996 511 127 00) for $75 and hope that works!
