So many 996 owners (including myself) have had to remove their dead Becker radios and find a suitable solution and the Continental radios have the clean look and feel of the OEM versions.

In my 2002 w/ factory Bose, I'm running a Continental + this version of the Bergvill F/X harness, which does not have the LOC:

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Last week I moaned about how my new Continental tr7412ub stereo from Becker in NJ had no sound. Well that was my fault, the unit had been re-wired with a new harness and I did not understand exactly how to hook it up, But after a short discussion with Tom at Becker I had it installed and working perfectly in 5 minutes...Totally plug and play. This is a custom made harness and he has only done a few, but I bet he would be happy to do more. You do loose the CD changer but you gain Blue Tooth, USB, Aux in, and microphone. With no cutting or adapting anything, and I think it looks pretty good
This set up will work in 01-02 996 with cdr220/cr220
Nice! I was surprised to read your other thread - those folks are the only ones I'd even consider using if I had to deal with Bose/MOST in my 996. I do not miss that part of my 986 experience.
Great to hear that you got things sorted out and that Becker took good care of you.
Yes it does have a Frunk Amp and that was the problem, I did not realize that there was a separate wire that sends power to the amp and I actually cut it off thinking it was for Steering wheel controls that I do not have. luckily I left enough wire to re-attach it.
Any chance you took pictures of the wiring harness and connectivity. I'm still confused how the Conti feeds the amp. I spoke with a Conti sales rep and he stated their units did not support pre-amp output. They would only feed speaker level output.
unfortunately I did not but I believe the blue power wire in plug A? is spliced with a blue wire to a yellow female connector that the yellow C3? male plugs in to, this powers the Amp which was the extra yellow receptacle I did not understand.
I forget exactly where I found that info (somewhere on the forums, I'll see if I can dig it up).
From experience, though, I'm running the following Conti and adapter harness in my 2002 w/ Bose, and it works perfectly:
https://www.bergvillfx.com/index.php...7416ub-or.html
https://www.bergvillfx.com/index.php...ster-bose.html
exactly! The CDR-220 was common in the pre-MOST systems and it's my understanding, the unit provided two L+R pairs of line-outs (front and rear) for the amp.
That at being said, I would love to know how the Conti system handles these signals.
I'm wondering the same thing. So many 996 owners (including myself) have had to remove their dead Becker radios and find a suitable solution and the Continental radios have the clean look and feel of the OEM versions. Sound quality seems to be on par with Becker, but I'm still confused with the DIY part of the equation. I wish someone would post a step by step tutorial on how to carry out this installation. The wiring diagrams on the Conti website are super limited and don't explain all the connections.
It was my initial opinion, that the Conti radios only offered speaker-level output which would be useful for the mk1 base (non-HIFI, non-BOSE) radio systems. But now, it seems that these units will feed the analog frunk amps. How though? Most frunk analog amps require an 4-channel analog line-level source. Taking a speaker-level source doesn't make sense IMHO.
Help!
See my post #12. That's all there is to it.
I keep meaning to get around to a DIY, but trust me, it doesn't get much simpler. Use the adapter, plug it in. All the adapter is doing is switching constant/switched power, nothing to do with the audio outputs.
I didn't know about the Becker guys selling modded Contis, that's pretty cool. Do they carry the ones with the CD player?
Spoke to Tom and he said:
We can only do that option for a 2001-2002 996
The connection to the amp in a 2000 is different and the continental will not match up
Any other options?
Thank you
I have the
iSimple tranzit blu BKR-235
blue tooth adapter connected to my MY2000 with cdr-220 and HiFi option (amp in frunk). It works great for streaming music and hands-free phone. It has excellent Siri integration. This kit is plug & play and doesn't use the antenna connection or FM. So if you watch the video on the site, you can disregard most of the set up. Once you link your phone to it, it will automatically reconnect every time you're in the car.
Lately I've been getting some alternator whine coming through, especially if the mp3 volume settings are low and the radio is cranked up to compensate. This is a bit of a bummer because I really like the system. I'll have to experiment with an additional ground. Otherwise it's perfect.
I was looking at the Continental because I'd like to put music on a small USB drive like I did with my other car. But that's not a high priority.
Okay you have my attention.
Did you keep the factory equalizer? Asking because on my '01 tt, when I swapped in a CDR for CR, I got no sound without the equalizer board plugged in.
So I stripped it out of its case and tucked it behind my makeshift GT3 console delete.
If the harness allows me to bypass the equalizer, that would be perfect, since I never use it, and I'm sure the Conti HU must have that built in.
From BERGVILL F/X
Some Porsche models have a factory fitted external amplifier, often called Hi-Fi
option. This is most often mentioned as Option Code 490 in the car documentation.
Most of these amplifiers need line level signals, and the Continental head units DO
NOT have line level outputs. BERGVILL F/X have several plug-and-play hanresses
with line level converters (LOC) that simplify the installation in these cars.
We also stock several harnesses that makes it possible to bypass the factory amp,
and use the internal amplifiers in the Continental head unit. We also stock a MOST
converter harness for easy connection to car systems with a optical connection
between hte head unit and amplifier. See our web shop for details.
Interesting. So some do, then, though?
In my 2002 w/ factory Bose, I'm running a Continental + this version of the Bergvill F/X harness, which does not have the LOC:
https://www.bergvillfx.com/index.php...ster-bose.html
The question is, how do we determine which inputs our amp requires, if it varies? My setup works perfectly, which is why I have believed that the amps took high level inputs.
Yeah, you're obviously right. Just sharing my understanding and what has worked from my experience. Still curious to get some definitive clarification.
