Because my driver's side seat was worn from over a decade of use I switched the left and rear seats to even out the wear.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

37 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ever since acquiring this magnificent motorcar, I have worried about applying wear unevenly. I typically drive alone - well, if you consider being in the presence of your own magnificence as alone time, I weep for you - but I digress. At any rate, I've been worried about uneven wear on the seat bolsters, door handles, and associated switch and latch hardware, so I have been alternating entry and exit every other day. Day 1 I use the driver side, day 2 the passenger side. The difference is already remarkable to the wear I see savaging the cars of lesser thinkers. I may opt to have a third door installed...each additional ingress/egress can only help but preserve the integrity of my EC (early, collectible) 996. I have yet to optimize the driving position - currently I use two hoes (the garden variety, you louts) and a giant double-headed black dong for the accelerator (an odd implement, I realize - but it fits so well in the hand). Cheers!

POST 3Original post

I do the same thing, but I noticed you forgot one key step. REMOVE YOUR SHOES PEOPLE. How many times do I have to ask someone to take off their shoes before they get in my car, it's a respect thing. Also, I've noticed that blue jeans tends to wear down the leather and bolsters the most, so while unconventional, I've started purchasing female yoga pants. Not only are they comfortable as **** on my nuts, but the stretchy material sliding against the cool soft leather is quite literally orgasmic. 10/10.

POST 4Original post

Polyester pants, driving shoes & gloves: they can't hurt, right? Because my driver's side seat was worn from over a decade of use I switched the left and rear seats to even out the wear. So far so good. It is this kind of thread focusing on the finer details of ownership that keeps me coming back to Rennlist. By the way, I used to drive a Maserati. Thank you

POST 5Original post

I have discovered that any dye from clothing items will stain the seats. Hence, I moved to only driving in white clothes, ala Don Johnson in Miami Vice. However, I soon discovered the laundry detergent from my whites was also damaging my supple leather. So, I stopped washing my driving clothes. However, the dirt and grime then was applied to my seats, not to mention my passengers began complaining of a certain "ripeness." Now, I drive naked.

POST 7Original post

As the third entry point, I have been using my sunroof. No door wear at all!

POST 8Original post

Sadly, because of my height I can barely get in my 996 the normal way. Unfortunately, I will be one of the heathens that continues to savage the condition of my car by using the traditional, albeit completely misguided, method of entry and not the enlightened method of entry. *repeatedly slaps self in the face muttering deprecating profanity* D.

How do you get in without scratching the paint with your feet? Do you dive in? Skydive from a plane and parachute in?

POST 10Original post

I just look at my Porsche from a safe distance, put my hands at an imaginary 10-2 position and make vroom-vroom noises. PSA- when making the vroom-vroom noise, do so at a quiet hush so as not to rattle the IMS bearing.

Are you willing to consider alternative activities while making the vroom vroom noises? If so, I know a guy who will give you 15 gallons of gas.

A little forward, but...we should meet up. How about Friday at 8PM, Santa Monica pier? I'll be wearing a green backpack. If I'm late, my buddy Chris will find a place for you to hang out and wait.

Btw, SmartTop just released a new module that will open the sunroof with 19 presses of the lock button on your key. This will help with Kris Murphy's ingenious version of the enlightened entry technique (EET). Timely I'd say. D.

A real Porsche owner would do what I do and have a fresh supply of OEM driver's seats to install whenever wear begins to show on bolsters. At the very least, reupholster, man, reupholster!

POST 26Original post

psssssshhhhh, bunch of noobs.....I 3-D print a new seat everytime I drive (quick detach mounts on rails). VOILA.......ZERO wear on the factory units swathed in 1,000 count Egyptian cotton sheets while stored in a climate-controlled subterranean bunker (triple filtered air, uninterruptible power source).

You need to let some air out of the two right side tires. Gotta be at least a 2 degree slant in that signature pic. Hey, you gonna be at the AX this weekend? If so, I can bring you a zip lock bag so you can stuff your keys up your snorkel.

POST 28Original post

Oh, now I understand why people do GT3 console delete on 996. :P Must be much easier to slide in driver seat...

POST 29Original post

because of all the satire here on this thread we will most likely never see this question seriously posted .........and that is sad . Good news there will be plenty of water, phone, oil ,tools, nuts ,floor mats etc to go around. I will confess though when i first read the subject of the thread i thought here we go again ....i will be sharing this beauty at da bar like the bent crank one ......the bar STILL gets a laugh at the po owner wanting to do an oil change and asking what is the difference between an oil pan and drain pan [silly engineers]

POST 30Original post

So what's the difference, one holds oil and the other drains oil? DT40?

If also facilitates foot-based communication - an overlooked utility.

POST 32Original post

I hold my farts until I'm safely out of the vehicle, there's no knowing what damage that could cause

POST 33Original post

I offer an alternative solution. I prefer to have multiple drivers seats and drivers side doors. One for every day of the week should suffice. Daily drivers may want a monthly set.

POST 34Original post

This is one of the advantages of a grey interior, you can always use a bit of duct tape on the worn bolster.

POST 36Original post

Don't worry about the farts...a Brita water filter (either clenched or used as a suppository) will neutralize them before they can damage the leather. A warning to the nude drivers....if you manscape, the stubble can cause added wear to the seats...waxing is much better for the seats.

POST 37Original post

You guys seriously need to come to grips with what is acceptable of a 996 passenger. 1. Shoes off. New socks only 2. No jeans. Yoga pants only 3. Must wear mint fart patches 4. Don't breathe
