Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

fronts are currently 235/35 ZR18 rears are currently 285/30R18 I want to purchase the HRZ III tires from tire rack but I don't see this tire available in the same front tire size as what I currently have.. Should I change the front tire size to something different? The car is a 2001 996 lowered 1 inch and has HRE wheels.

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

These are the sizes this tire comes in. Need to know what size to get the front and rear. Thanks 215/35ZR1884Y 215/40ZR1889Y 225/40ZR1892Y 225/45ZR1895Y 235/40ZR1895Y 235/50ZR1897Y 245/40ZR1897Y 245/45ZR18100Y 255/35ZR1894Y 255/40ZR1899Y 255/45ZR18103Y 265/35ZR1897Y 265/40ZR18101Y 275/35ZR1895Y 285/30ZR1897Y 285/35ZR1897Y 295/30ZR1894Y

POST 3Original post

I would get the 225/40/18. Might be a little stretched though if your front wheels are 8.5" wide. What are the widths?

POST 5Original post

I would call tire rack and ask; their customer service is normally pretty knowledgeable.

POST 7Original post

Well you have two options the 225/40/18 or the 235/40/18. Downside to the 235/40/18 is the sidewall will look a little thicker than the 225 but will be a little smoother with the higher profile.

POST 8Original post

225/40 and 265/30 make a nice combo. I don't know that you could tell the difference but 225/40 and especially 235/40 are going to make the 285 rears a smaller diameter than the front. Performance wise, 225/265 will be a good balance between front and rear.

POST 9Original post

I think you would be better off to buy the right tires from a mfg that makes them in the right size. No tire is going to be so beneficial you have to use wrong sizes. They are going to be worn out in 10k mi anyway

POST 10Original post

For street tires, I'm using 225's & 265's Sumi HTR Z III on 8" and 10" wheels on my 996. They're a good choice (brand & size) for the street. Just go with those sizes and be done with it.

POST 11Original post

For serious? Tires make ALL the difference. They are your car's only point of contact with the earth! And the Sumi's hit a sweet spot of high performance and low cost. They are well worth figuring out a the right sizing combination for.

POST 12Original post

no disrespect, but is this a serious question? owners manual or search will tell you all you need to know

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 14462800

do you happen to have any pictures of how those tires look on your car?

POST 14Original post

Quotes source post: 14464575

Yes. But I just tried to upload it and this wonderful new format won't let me do it. IB sucks. My car is lowered and there are no clearance issues.

POST 15Original post

225/40/ZR18 285/30/ZR18 Those would be the 'standard' size but I don't know what rims you have.

POST 16Original post

I'm running a 235/40R18 - 285/35R18 combo on my slightly lowered daily driver. Easy to find tires in these sizes, and the the ratio of "stagger" is awfully close to OEM. Not an "N" rated choice, so follow at your own risk.

I have the HTR Sumi Tires My '03 is lowered 1" with Techart Suspension. I have 3 piece Cargraphic Wheels, 18x9 and 18x11. The tires are: 235x40r 18 front 295x30r 18 rear This is WOT coming up the esses at Watkins Glen Not a lot of ground clearance, but is manageable if you are careful

POST 18Original post

My previous baby was lowered with coilovers for track wrk...I ran 245's and 295's (Hoosiers) but my fenders were rolled...something you might want to think about having done..... No rubbing, no clearance issues........ For the street I ran MPSS, 235/285..... 8" fronts and 11" rears...no issues.....
