I am new to this forum and have just acquired a 2001 996 cab. I would love to check my control unit to see the solder joints as my top is temperamental. One thread talked about where it was next to the steering column on the driver's side and kind of under the air vent. I have a mini flexible camera even and cannot seem to locate it or the VDO box attached to it. If anyone has a more detailed write up or even better, pics of where to access this part, i would be so grateful. Matt

It's located behind the passenger seat on the left side. You remove the carpet on the shelf behind the seat to access the unit. You can see it in the upper left of the image in figure 5 of this DIY: http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarti..._Mechanism.htm It's to the left of the hydraulic pump.
