Leading evidence: 'Repair /rebuild was very complete' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Repair /rebuild was very complete' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. I have been using 3mm silicone tube as a repair sleeve over broken OEM line but I am realizing is a foolish short term hack.

Replacing all the vacuum lines with modern tubing is a great way to eliminate gremlins.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My Indy found a split vacuum hose and he thought that cured it.
Anyone replace theirs? Mine is screwing up the idle after being warmed up and then stopping (coming off an interstate ramp to a stop). You can hear the fan come on, the idle pops up to near 1000 rpms and, eventually, the CEL comes on.
This started after the IMS/clutch replacement engine drop. My Indy found a split vacuum hose and he thought that cured it.
Ideas?

Give it a shot. I did it, but it only extended it's useful life by a few months. It may have already been too far gone. You'll see - it's fairly easy to get out. I think I got my new one for $270 at Pelican.

If your pump is running and it's quiet, why do you want to replace it? Also, what are the codes that tripped the CEL? The surge to 1000 rpm sounds like vacuum leak when the pump and the changeover valve is activated. The changeover valve when activated lets vacuum flow to the SAI one way valve at the exhast side, which should not affect intake. However, if the changeover and/or tube is leaking, air can suck back to the intake.
I did the KrazyK rebuild on mine in the fall. It's a piece of cake and the SAI Pump is a very simple little device. If the pump is running and moving air, without the bearings making a racket, then the pump is likely ok...there's just not much to it.
Seems like further investigation is needed - I don't think a failing pump would impact idle that drastically. It could be part of the solution for sure, but appears that there may be a second vacuum leak or related failure.
Code P0507 "Idle air control system higher than expected".
Like I said, you can hear the fan kick on and the revs fluctuate once you come to a stop. I'm not at all convinced it's a fan problem. It seems like it's something requesting the idle to kick up after harder driving when it's not necessary.
Off to the Indy when I get a chance.
Thanks all!

Replacing all the vacuum lines with modern tubing is a great way to eliminate gremlins. Not a very difficult job either. The original lines get brittle and crack and the cracks are so small there is no visible clue that they are leaking.
Pesky vacuum lines- a common and frustrating issue to resolve for some of us.
So what is the best source for replacement vacuum line? Hopefully there is a more durable and flexible modern material available?
I have been using 3mm silicone tube as a repair sleeve over broken OEM line but I am realizing is a foolish short term hack. Modern flexible silicone vac line is very easy to work with but I am concerned that nobody has mentioned substituting it on our engines for the brittle, stiff OEM material. There must be a reason???
The larger diameter silicone hose is useless for high vacuum because it softens and collapses when hot. But the tiny 3mm is much stiffer. Any experiences to share/ Thanks.
I prefer the stock vacuum lines and you can get them by meters from Porsche. Check out my writeup here

I have a 06 997s and I have P0492 code, may I ask where can I physically find the secondary air pump and lines in the engine bay. sorry but I'm a new Porsche owner. TIA!
Nice of you to stop by the 996 forum for help with your 997.
The pump is in the engine compartment, left side.
You will find some good troubleshooting information on P0492 here:
