This is not a probability of success.

I'm really excited about it - its sole purpose will be street legal track car (streetable only so far as is required to drive to the track) and I think it was the right decision.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

1 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

After several months of agonizing over my beloved car and the risks inherent in tracking it, I finally settled on a pair of training wheels in the form of an '87 e30 325i. I really like my car and just couldn't bear the emotional or financial trauma of leaving it in a wall someplace. (unlikely at the remote but I think a real risk each time a car goes on track) I had thought of trading 'down' to an early 993 and tracking that but decided against on account of 1) I really, really like my car 2) 996 or 993, the driver has a lot of catching up to do before she can really take advantage of their full potential and 3) 993 prices are such that it wouldn't exactly be a 'disposable' track car. After a good amount of research (& beers with other PCA members), I decided to look for either a 944 (parts & maint costs could get pretty high, imho) or an e30 (cheaper parts & looks simple enough for me to learn wrenching skills). After a couple of months of searching, I hit paydirt; a local car which someone (with wrenching skills - thank you Jason!!) had been preparing as a track car but had to sell: engine in great shape, replaced all the important parts recently, suspension, solid car in need only of a cage, seats, and maybe a few minor bits. I'm really excited about it - its sole purpose will be street legal track car (streetable only so far as is required to drive to the track) and I think it was the right decision. However, that being said and in full recognition of the fact that it is nearly 20 years old - it's horrible to drive. Not on account of the suspension or 3" straight exhaust or anything like that .... the steering is awful, there's no torque, ergonomically horrible On the plus side, it is inspiring me to get my butt on track, put in the time & start improving so that I can earn a proper track car for myself - a Porsche. In the meantime, it should be a ball on track but I will always look forward to going home to my baby. Some more pix if interested: http://www.somniplex.com/gallery/new_e30
