When you replaced your mounts, did you have to lift your engine up slightly before bolting/tightening down the new mounts to adjust for that small drop down?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

New to this, but looks like the RSS motor mounts have some great feedback. A little more money (395.00 @ Amazon is that the best way to go?) the car is a 2004 Cab 4S with 47k miles. Any input is appreciated. First Porsche that I have ever owned, so I am on the learning curve. Thanks!

RSS for sure Awesome product Make a world of difference especially if your mounts are worn

POST 3Original post

I didn't think semi solid mounts would make much of a difference honestly but damn! Glad I went that route.

POST 4Original post

I like my OEM's, smooth shifting and high performance.

POST 5Original post

Rennline makes a really nice adjustable mount so that you can tune it in to your preference. I've been really pleased them.

POST 7Original post

I just installed the Rennline tuneable mounts in my 01 C4. Put mid-range inserts in. They are great! Lang G

WEVO is a good one to check out. Lots of great reviews on this product: http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/...ENGMIS_pg4.htm

After trying the Reds, Blues were my preference as well.

I'll be installing new Rennline with yellows this weekend. It's a nicely fabbed mount. Edit. Whoops. I meant the red mounts. Red is the stiffest if the 3 options, correct?

POST 11Original post

I just replaced mine a couple of weeks ago with stock units. With almost everything else I've gone with a performance upgrade but in this case I'm happy I went with stock. It really cut the engine vibrations down quite a bit from where they were before.

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Called my local Porsche mechanic and requested a labor only quote for motor mounts and the new trans. mount. I was told 1.5 hours (labor @ 89.00 per hour) for the trans. mount and 2.5 hours for the two motor mounts. I thought that was strange, he replied that he has done a ton of both. Trans. looks like a bitch (at least for the shade tree mechanic) I told him to just do the trans mount, and I'll do the motor mounts. FedEx showed up today @ 1pm by 1:45 the job was done. WHAT A DIFFERENCE OVERALL! also, the exhaust drop is gone, nice and snug. I guess supporting the whole engine and trans weight for 12 years, the original mounts just had enough. The hot Florida weather probably does not help either. Still going to have the shop do the trans mount, with the needed press and all, I have been assured labor won't exceed 200.00 - just not worth doing that myself IMO. aaaaaaa_zpsn02b4v8s.jpg

POST 15Original post

Motor mounts are are really easy DIY install . All you need is a little floor Jack and a socket set . I went with wevo . I looked at stock ones , ruled them out as they are known to be short lived and sloppy . I looked at solid ones but they transfer to much vibration . So went with wevo semi solids on the reccomendation of the Indy I use . Took me about 1.5 hours and two beers 210 usd$ , not too expensive .

I installed the Rennline tunable mounts with the red (stiffest) inserts. Truthfully, I'm not noticing much difference driving it between my house and storage facility. Maybe a little more vibration over 3500RPM but nothing significantly different than what I had. The OEM mounts I removed looked good. I've got an event at RA this weekend so hopefully I'll notice a benefit.

I switched to Porsche RS mounts years ago. You will definitely notice the difference on a racetrack. The mounts wont flex under hard braking, acceleration and hard cornering. Car's engine will feel bolted to the chassis, unlike the movement you felt with stock mounts.

POST 18Original post

OK, so I'll bite.......how do you know when/if you need new mounts? My car is an '03 C4s and has done 94k miles...............what should I be looking for to indicate a tired engine mount?

POST 19Original post

Quotes source post: 13236884

I would assume that any car with that age and mileage would benefit from an upgrade. The mounts on my '03 targa feel very soft when shifting and there's a very noticeable amount of movement in the engine when just revving in neutral. I should have new rennline semisolids in the mail any day now.

Look at the rear exhaust of the car, it should be very snug to the top exhaust housing. When I replaced mine, it lifted the exhaust up (meaning everything else) about 1.5" Mine is an 04 with 47k miles. When I removed mine, there was small amounts of fluid leaking from them. Look at the exhaust difference (pic in the garage is AFTER new m/m/ install) p5_zpsdohh2oeu.jpg 7_zpsl7pbpben.jpg

POST 21Original post

So has anyone used the 993 GT2RS mounts? They cost about the same as the aftermarket ones but keep it OEMish.

POST 22Original post

Quotes source post: 13237540

Yep, mine look like your "before" pics......thanks!

POST 24Original post

I will be doing mine this weekend and I do have the same exhaust tip "droop" on mine so hopefully the new mounts will fix that. Jon, When you replaced your mounts, did you have to lift your engine up slightly before bolting/tightening down the new mounts to adjust for that small drop down? Thanks, cheers,

Thanks. How did they work for you?

POST 26Original post

Quotes source post: 13240406

^ read post #17 in this thread. If you track or autocross this is a must do upgrade in my opinion. The difference between the RS and stock mounts is night and day. The engine does not move around under hard loads. However, If you like the supple ride a stock suspension offers then they are not recommended.

dagh, just learned how to read yesterday. Thank you for your input. This upgrade/maintenance is near the top of my list.

UPS just dropped off my RSS mounts and Underdrive pulley. Going in next week. I was a machinist for ten years, the RSS product looks amazing. Also, MADE IN USA
