i just had my car to an indy for window regulator and he inspected the tires and said i wasnt even close to needing new rubber.

as was stated above they are basically 1/2 price compared to other available tires and when they are finally ready to be replaced (i'm guessing next summer after i switch back from upcoming winter tires) i will put a new set of HTR ZIII on and save $ for other maintenance items.

No ex w Sumi's, Falken used once, no bad experience.

Just put a set on the MB Sport, now just waiting for Conti's on Targa to wear out, I'm going with a set to replace, either PS4 or AS 3+.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Also I dont drive the car very much in the winter so not worried about all season tires.
Right now I think it has Parelli Potenza tires.
Im staying stock and buying good rubber.
Makes the most sense to me.
So what tire do I need to buy??
Staying stock rim and just buying rubber.
I started a thread asking which tire is considered the best.
You May have answered right there but I dont understand what tire your suggesting.
Ok. Michelin 4S for summer and AS3+ is all-season, but dang near as good as the 4S. There is the issue of being able to find the best selection of rubber in the rear size of 285, but 265 rears have lots of options. The PS4S is, from all my searches, the best tire to put on your car. Conti Extreme Contact Sport in 285 was a fave of mine.
What is your budget? SUMITOMO HTR Z III are almost insanely cheap and have been good street tires. Michelins are probably better but are 2x the price. And, before you accuse me of being a penny pinching cheapskate, let me say that the GT3 guys from Rennlist put me onto these tires.
When I bought my set of Sport Techno rims for my C4S (the seller had aftermarkets on them, too small and were ugly), as they were an original option with the car per the VIN lookup, they had/have the Sumi HTR Z IIIs on them. Don't have many complaints about them.
I think I've looked this up before, but do the Michelin PS4S' fit a C4S? Neither Discount Tire or Tire Rack show they do, but instead the Pilot Sport PS2 and Sport Cup 2...
Potenza is a line of tires made by Bridgestone.
Pirelli's performance tire is P-Zero.
I can't tell you which tire you
need
to buy (other than the right size(s)). I can suggest that you visit a site such as Tire Rack, and spend a little time learning what's out there. They have great information and provide reviews on most of the products they sell.
If you're just looking for opinions, this place is fine. If you want real objective data based on real scientific testing, I suggest you look at:

A google search will get you more... Good Luck
I have Michelin PS4 on mine (225 front/ 275 back i believe). Had Conti extreme Sport before. The Michelins have less road noise after a few thousand miles and seem stickier. I like them.
Sumitomos werent my taste.
I love my BFGoodrich G-Force Comp-2
Have them on my Daily Driver also and they got through some snow last winter just fine. Quiet and comfy
https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...e&autoModClar=
Your link goes to the all-season version of that tire. I assume that is what you bought. I have several sets of G-Force Comp-2s (the summer tire). I would never allow myself to get caught in snow with them. Because that's exactly what would happen...
i bought my 03 c4s mid March 2019 with 2015 SUMITOMO HTR ZIII on it. car was only driven 750 miles/year on average for the 11 years before i acquired it so i assume they had approximately 3,000 miles on them. i've put another 3,000 on them in 2 months, including 2 track days. i just had my car to an indy for window regulator and he inspected the tires and said i wasnt even close to needing new rubber. as was stated above they are basically 1/2 price compared to other available tires and when they are finally ready to be replaced (i'm guessing next summer after i switch back from upcoming winter tires) i will put a new set of HTR ZIII on and save $ for other maintenance items.
No. the tires are 2015, but i know the car was only driven 8k miles in total the 11 years prior to me buying it in 2019 so i just assume 750/year and thus 3k miles on the tires since 2015. estimating they now have slightly over 6k miles on them
I did indeed buy the all-season tire. Figured its cheap insurance since theres no guaranties I wont get caught in a crazy down pour and ive seen too many buddies wreck in heavy rain on ultra high performance summer rubber
I'm STILL running Hankook Ventus V12 Evo2's - this is my 3rd set. I have found no reason to not continue buying them. They do get a little greasy when really hot, but otherwise they're awesome affordable UHP summer tires.
If you read reviews, make sure you are reading the Evo2 reviews. The original Ventus V12 Evo suffered from sidewall stiffness issues that were corrected with the Evo2.
You may want to check out Tire Rack. You can put your parameters in and it will come up with suggestions. Also, they have a feedback section By previous buyers FWIW. Btw, someone mentioned Sumis, IMHO they are el cheap o tires in terms of road noise and wear, and I am not talking about on track use.
I've run 3 sets of Sumitomos and lots of GT3 guys run them as street tires. I have pushed them hard, and haven't had a problem. The only complaint
I have is they tend to be noisy when cold, especially as they wear down. What's your personal experience with them?
For summer and dry grip nothing beats the Pilot Sport Cup 2
The Pilot Sport 4S is not far off and definitely the better all-rounder. Amazing wet grip also when cold.
I personally like the Yokohama Advan Neova AD08r although it has a W speed rating instead of Y.
From the standard N-rated 18inch I prefer the Bridgestone S02a over the Michelin Pilot Sport 2. I like the firm ride and more direct feedback of the Bridgestones. At higher speeds the 18inch PS2 become a bit vague. Strangely enough its 19inch version behaves way better.
Loud, and wear incredibly fast. Rears with about 5500 street miles. I don't drive it like I ain't got a dime in it, but I do drive it like Porsche intended.
Discount Tire can get them within a few days if not in stock. I got really good service from DT off I-45 in South Montgomery County across the street from Molly's Pub. I hit a pothole that cut my rear tire so they kept my car in an empty bay while we waited for the tires.
I think I know which DT you're talking about. My wife had her car always serviced at the DT in Shenandoah, they do pretty good. I just had always looked at the 4S, it's just strange that they don't pull up as an option for the 996.2 C4S on their site or Tire Rack.
There is no 295/30R18 PS4S. If you want stock tire sizes (and there are good reasons for this, as the AWD system depends on it) that ends the conversation about the PS4S on the C4S. I have made this $1500 mistake before.
On my second set of Sumi's on my C4S. First set, rears lastest about 20k miles over 4 years. Fronts still had tread, but decided to replace all four. For street work, these are hard to beat.
Now I remember why I checked them off my list previously, in that nobody is 'out of stock' on that size, they just don't make them. I'll stick to the PS2s! Thanks for the input!

That is the same thing that I did - Im running the Bridgestone Potenza RE980AS all-season. Stock sizes - 225 front 265 rear. So far Im very happy with them - put about 3,000 miles on them. Quiet running and very good wet and dry traction. Got stuck driving in a fresh 3 snow and they worked fine, not that I would normally do that.
The other reason to go with all season is the tread life will be better than pure summer tires. But - Im not driving my car on a track - so ultimate performance was not critical to me. As a point of reference our VW GTI came with the same tires from the factory; they now have 35,000 miles and still have a ton of tread left. That car gets driven every day rain, shine or snow and it was fine.
Daryll
I run them on my C2 street and occasional track days and autocross.
The biggest surprize for me was wet weather traction,
^^^ this is at a WGI HPDE in the rain, my first time driving at high speeds on a wet surface. They worked pretty good, not as good as a set of $1700 tires I would think, but good for the money.
On a dry track, their grip matches my ability, PCA HPDA yellow run group.
As I learn to get more out of the car on every type of corner, they gently let me know where their limit is as the car rotates.
If you use a tire with a lot of grip on a track, the "OH, S##T", moment does not give you very much warning. Something you should be aware of if you are tracking and learning with your 996.
12,000 miles on the front, the 295 rears, I replaced at 8000 miles.
My alignment is just about spec and tire wear is very even.
They get flat spots after a week if not driving, they smooth out after 10 or so miles.
Why does Tire Rack put the PS2 and PS4S in the same category? Im sort of miffed. I️ bought Regular PSs two years ago in the OE 18 size for my C2 and neither tire was made in that size then. Now they are both cheaper than what the PSs were.
I'm surprised not one mention of Falken tires. On my second set for my C2 and love them. Tons of grip and decent life, good price point for street driving.
Yep me too with Eagles totally crap tires ....Good Years should only be put on hearse's when you are riding in the rear and it doesn't matter.
For me
Michelin PS4 for the street not even up for discussion ...There are other brands that are decent but as we all know the platinum standard is Michelin even for my motorcycles. There is a reason why all the premier brands go to Michelin for their tires. 30+ yrs on Michelin's and never an issue. If it ain't broke don't fix it unless you want to cheap out ...
I am currently running two sets: P Zeros (in stock C4S sizes) for the summer, and P Zero AS+ in stock snow tire sizes for the spring/fall. But this will be the last year for the summer tires. So going forward I have identified four options
1. "The Smart Move" PS2 in stock sizes.
2. "The Budget Move" Sumitomo HTR III in stock sizes or FK510 in stock sizes
3. "The Won't Do What You Tell Me Move" Falken RT 615+ in 235 Front, 315 rear
In the GT2 fitment size (option 3) the Falken are the only tires that won't neuter the AWD system. Also the I expect the 315s to make my *** look big. Frankly, I know this is the wrong move, but I won't do what you tell me.
I can't say I have had them on my 911 but I had a set of Firestone Firehawk Indy 500's on my GTI. It was my daily driver and they seemed to perform really well for the price. The reviews on them are all pretty positive as well.
Have Run PS PS2, Cups AS, AS2 and 3+'s. They are usually expensive , but run and wear great, Best steering feedback, also work at DE's . Fantastic in Rain.
Just put a set on the MB Sport, now just waiting for Conti's on Targa to wear out, I'm going with a set to replace, either PS4 or AS 3+. I'll decide when I'm closer.
Other brands work, but there is something different, Pirelli's usually come close. Potenza's don't wear as well in my experience but work well. No ex w Sumi's, Falken used once, no bad experience.
Hate to ask but, what about ride and noise? My 99 C2 is street driven in FL. If Michelins are the right tires ill pay the price. If they are too rough and loud I could give on the grip for road use. 17 Dunlops on it now., not great.
I had Sumito on some turbo rotaries I had and i hated them. wore uneven, cupped, and didn.t grip well. I have Potenzas on my 18" wheels and haven't been super happy with them. I feel like they don't grip and are horrible in the rain (though that part isnt important to me). My 19's that are on the car currently have Hankook Ventus V12 evo2, and I have zero complaints (again, they suck in the wet but not important to me) they are fantastic in the dry.
All that said, when these wear out, I'm putting Michelins on
Ask 20 people you'll get a lot of different answers, also it depends on where you are (no cold?) and what type of driving you do.
Also, there are "Tire Snobs" just like everything else (gun snobs, watch snobs...etc)
I am very happy with Sumitomo's, I just put a set on my "new to me" 03 996 Cab....(I've had them on a few of my Boxsters also)
They are quiet, soft riding...comparatively, fairly inexpensive and for my use GREAT ...
My Sumis have 21,000 miles and the front tread depths are at 0.6, the rears are at 0.4/0.5. I don't drive often in wet or snow, generally stays in the garage on crummy days (it's a cab). No handling complaints on the local twisties. I'll be replacing the rears sometime this summer. At $175 ea for a rear tire, I'll probably buy them again.
I have Conti Extreme Contacts on my car and would love to recommend them at their price point but I can’t.. SUPER COMPETENT tire with heat in them but are wonky when cold.
The DWS/06 has most of the bennies of the Extremes, with the better wet performance, haven't run them on the Carerra 4 , but on my E46 330XI they were amazing..
Currently have Michlen Sport Pilots, they are very good so far, haven't pushed them hard in the wet yet.
I don't see that they have this tire in our size? I purchased my car with the Continental Extreme Contacts. I've had these tires before and I am not a fan. I can't wait for them to wear out so I can get a different tire. I ran the DWS's on my VW R32 and loved them. Night and day difference between the brand new Extreme Contacts. I would run them on my car if they were available in our size.
Ah,, your right,, I was looking a the wrong chart on tire rack..
They have the front for my C4 but not the rear.. Darn..
Darn I really like those for fall through spring. And in the Pacific North Wet that matters!
I have 4Ss on my C4 and I love them wet or dry. 235-40-18 on the front and 285-35-18 on the rear. For the C4 you must keep the outside diameters close front to rear. These two are about 2% different. I have not seen a hard requirement in writing but I "hear" that 4% difference is the maximum to not cause difficulty in the viscous coupling.
