Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I also replaced the factory radio with a new Pioneer one that has the modern conveniences like Nav and Bluetooth.

Suggestion
Keep[ in mind my 996 is a Frankenstein of 996.1, 996.2 and 997 mechanicals so the car is far from original anyway and will be impossible to ever change back to original.

You can replace the enclosure and upgrade the bulbs to LED....get the best of both options!

Looked at some DIY projects replacing the lens alone but in the end I went with an OEM assembly from suncoast.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Anyone with first hand information, chime in. Each of mine has a small crack as if they where used as push points (
) to move the car before I got it.
I've read several mixed reviews but they seem to date back a few years...
I don't like the LED bling look (I do like the added brightness though)
A smoked set with my black would look good.
I have the Depo lights and I love them. To each his own. The smoked Spider(?) LED tails would look good on your car, but the quality isn't as good as Depo or OEM.
Depo are the highest quality, but they are in the 997 style arrangement. I tried a set of the ones on Amazon and Ebay that have the 996 layout but the quality was poor so I returned them and got the Depo lights.
I had a 1" crack in my driver side lens. Looked at some DIY projects replacing the lens alone but in the end I went with an OEM assembly from suncoast. The price was tough to abide but I don't even think about that now that I don't see the crack every day.
I just upgraded my to depot lights....this is the only picture I have of my 996 with smoked Depot lights. You can contrast them with my 997 lights as well. I liked my old lights when I smoked the lower portion but my teenage son wanted me to go with the LEDs. The second picture is the before shot.
I really like the look of the standard tail lights.
FYI if you get a set off ebay get some Meguires PlastiX - I cleaned up a spare set I have and am happy with the results.
It's not as abrasive as a full polish kit as there are plastic markings in the bottom corner I didnt want to touch.
Just like tinkering and trying different things out on the car...never happy. I think I like the originals better but my son and his Friend's voted these to stay on. They like the bling. Frankly, at night they do look real cool...I really like the LEDs at night with my C4S and definitely gives it the same look. Keep[ in mind my 996 is a Frankenstein of 996.1, 996.2 and 997 mechanicals so the car is far from original anyway and will be impossible to ever change back to original. I am keeping my lights though when I am ready to go back to the original look. Ironically, All of my other cars are bone stock with no mods....
both of my tail lights had a crack in the top center of the lens, so i replaced them with the chicom LED 997 look version on ebay
been a year and so far, they still work
if (when) they fail i will go with the depo lights
I have the Spyder clear lights. The smoked are not my choice on a silver car but I like them on the yellow one or a dark car. Contrary to others here, I had no issues with the Spyder ones. They are plug and play and fit right in. I did replace the reverse bulb with an LED though.
I kind of agree with you....I am old too...but I want to think young....Depo are a good compromise because the follow the stock 997 look....that is how I justify....plus my teenage boy loves 'em....now if I could put a big screen in the car like tesla, the teenagers will be happy.
I'm 39 and I want a big screen with all sorts of connectivity.
I love my car but every time I step out of a new car and in to mine it feels like the stone age.
Every upgrade/change is a personal decision. I struggled with whether to put on the Spyder lights but they are close in design to the factory ones and I kept the originals so I can replace them when/if I sell the car. I get the advantage of brighter lights as a safety feature. I also replaced the factory radio with a new Pioneer one that has the modern conveniences like Nav and Bluetooth. To some these changes devalue the car. To me they make it more enjoyable and safe to drive. It's your car, do what makes you happy.
