While the battery is out and since you did such a good job on the tray, why not remove the tray and clean underneath it - I imagine there is rust residue under there too.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

Luckily after cleaning it off and spraying some spraying some "convert rust to paint" we had it fixed.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Friend and I were going over the car last weekend and discovered that the battery wasn't secured and underneath it was at least a whole box of baking soda! Luckily after cleaning it off and spraying some spraying some "convert rust to paint" we had it fixed. Later I happened to be checking the spare tire and found the battery hold down bracket and bolt wedged underneath the spare! We also cleaned out both the drains, driver side was plugged with debris. Some pics for your enjoyment: Before any cleaning... Cleaned up some... and almost done...

POST 2Original post

Well done, its not good to have an unsecured battery... actually quite dangerous

POST 3Original post

POST 4Original post

Yes, unfortunately you must remove the tray also and clean.. i use POR 15 and have had great luck with it.. chemically it basically creates a layer of glass over whatever it is on so rusting process is kind of frozen. Also dont use lead acid batteries..they are all junk.

yes it was, but the battery looked almost brand new. So I think whatever was sitting in there before leaked and caused the problem. They just didn't clean it up when they put the new battery in.
