Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I recently got the dreaded p0420 and p0430 codes. There is already a lot of discussion about these codes so I won't start another redundant thread. However, I noticed that on my 2002 C4S the downstream sensors actually screw into the middle of the catalytic converter and not after it. Does anyone know why Porsche did that? Seems that on some models the downstream sensor is after the catalytic converter. Seems to me that by putting it in the middle of the converter, half of the converter is not being monitored. As such, I was thinking that if I can get an exhaust shop to weld on a bung after my converter (there is plenty of space), then I can potentially improve the measured efficiency of my existing converter by having the computer see the entire converter and potentially get rid of the efficiency codes. Any experts that agree or disagree with this logic, or perhaps can explain why Porsche placed the sensors in the middle of the converter?

POST 2Original post

I don't have an answer for you but surly a replacement sensor is the most logical option? If its not the sensor and its the cat itself, use the excuse to upgrade to some sports cats.
