Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

986 2003 2.7, just switched engine off and dumped a load of water on the drive through the overflow ! Left it overnight, unscrewed water cap topped it up and started her up a few bubbles and ALSO a few drips from the overflow, now there shouldn't be any pressure in there with no cap on ! Could it be the thermostat, no signs of any milky substance, so hopefully not an head gasket, also no steam out of exhaust.

POST 2Original post

You've posted in the 996 forum. You want the 986 forum. You may have air in the system, especially if any work was recently done that included any part of the cooling system. Check to see if you have the latest coolant reservoir cap. Also, flip up the release valve (a wire on the black cap on the the tank) and drive around for a few miles. That may release some air from the system and you'll probably find that the level has gone down. I'm sure the 986 forum people will be able to provide more help.
