I know there are a lot of you running 15mm spacers on the rear of the narrow body cars so this seems to be about the same as that.

Before you spend a bunch of money on wheels I would probably upgrade your suspension (Shocks/Springs/Coilovers etc) and run a wider rear tire.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

anyone running wide body rims on a narrow body car? I want to make sure Im understanding this right best I can tell wheel offset on the narrow body ranges from 40-45 on the front and 40-57 on the rear. My current wheels are 19 sport cup 4 and Im pretty sure the offset is 40f and 52r I am looking at picking up a set of 19 rims that were on a wide body the offset is 50f and 35r So am I understanding correctly this would make the wheel set out 17mm wider in the rear and set in 10mm on the front? Has anyone done this? Are there any fit issues making it happen? I know there are a lot of you running 15mm spacers on the rear of the narrow body cars so this seems to be about the same as that. And I assume I could run a 7mm spacer on the front if the offset there was a issue. Tia

POST 2Original post

Don't have a whole lot to contribute - only that i've never heard of anyone being able to run wide body wheels on a narrow body car. IMO 19" wheels dont look right on a 996 - 18" is the perfect size. Others will also make mention of a more harsh ride on 19".

POST 3Original post

The correct offset will depend on the wheel width. Your broad assumptions of 40-45 and 40-57 mean nothing without knowing how wide of a wheel you are running. You can run widebody wheels on a narrow body, but you will most likely have to modify camber, ride height, and manipulate tire size. It can absolutely be done though. I disagree on the 19's I think they look great if done right with the correct tire size and offsets.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I like the 19 wheels too.. I think they fill the fender gap nicely without putting a fatter side walled tire on it. My car has 19s now and it is smooth to drive and handles great (I havent put it on a track yet) for street driving. After a bunch of homework today I think Im going to stick with what I have as far as wheels but I need to get the correct size tire on them. I currently have a 265/30r19, going to go to a 305... its on a 11 rim. Other alternative is to spend $4500 on the wheels I want. I think there are other places I could put that cash that I would enjoy more

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I dont know if it shows in the pic but the 265 is really stretched out onto the rim

POST 6Original post

yes it absolutely can be done. I'm using 996 C4S (wb) twists on my 996 C2 (nb). I opted to run 275/40/18s on the 18x11+45 and have no issues. The car is sitting on H&R Sport springs. I rolled the lip on the rear fenders under just to be safe.

POST 7Original post

Before you spend a bunch of money on wheels I would probably upgrade your suspension (Shocks/Springs/Coilovers etc) and run a wider rear tire. Those Sport Cup wheels don't look bad and you could always run a spacer if you wanted a more aggressive wheel stance. If your current rears are 19x11 et52, that's a pretty decent setup. You could easily put a 5mm spacer and maybe a 10mm without any issues assuming you match the rear tire correctly and dial in your camber. Most people put a 295/30/19 on the rear and have done so with little issue. However the closest match to stock rolling radius is 315/25/19, but this tire is hard to find. That is the size that I run and have had no issues. My effective offset is et50 on a 19x11 wheel (Factory is 19x11 et65 but I put a 15mm spacer on). No issues at all with rub even with lowering.

POST 8Original post

i have 18" sport cup 4's on my car and love the look of them i didn't know they even made them in 19 - hmmm gets me pondering do you have any side view pics?
